"I wish I didn't have all these windows," said nobody ever. But the truth is a sunny room that's lousy with windows can actually be a bit of a problem if you're trying to, say, hang some shelves for extra storage. (I know, I know... First World Problems.)

The solution? Never let a window get in the way again! Turning your vista into viable shelf space is as simple as pretending the window wasn't there in the first place. That is, layer some open shelving–whatever your style–right in front of it.

As long as the hardware can support a shelf the width of your window, you can try this in any room in your home (or, rig it to hang from the ceiling). The best spots for a window shelf would likely be the bathroom or kitchen, where extra storage is always appreciated, and the window-adjacent real estate means you'll get some lovely effects from sunlight passing through glassware and bottles of booze or beauty products. Just check out these examples for inspiration.
