Kitchen Offices

If you're like us, a lot of your day-to-day life is spent in the kitchen. Why not manage the household from an efficient desk space in the room where you love to spend time? Ahh. Maybe it's the feminist in me, but I don't wanna spend that much time in my kitchen! ;)

I don't know what that has to do with feminism. My husband does most of the cooking (we try to trade off, but his job doesn't require days quite as long as mine), but I LOVE to hang out in the kitchen, especially when it smells so good. If we could fit a kitchen table or island for people to sit at, we'd put one there in a heartbeat.

I currently have my laptop set up on my kitchen table (no other place for it; it wasn't working in the bedroom) and I really feel like I am 'working' in my kitchen. I wish there was a way to make it feel more homey and less like 'sitting at my kitchen table.'

I have found that a desk at counter top works fine, but a desk at the traditional height of a desk is rarely used, especially when there are little children about.

We recently moved into a house with a built-in desk in the kitchen, and although when I first saw it I thought, "what a dumb place for a desk!" I have to say, it has really grown on me since then. I love it. We don't have a dedicated office, but the kitchen is at the back of the house and has a door to close it off from the rest of the house, so it's working out very well for us.
