A mix of sleek, contemporary fixtures and antique pieces that are a just slightly rough around the edges, a modern industrial kitchen makes for both a functional workspace and a stylish, inviting place to entertain.
The look can be achieved by investing in core pieces like cabinetry and hardware with clean lines, and juxtaposing these elements with more old-fashioned furnishings and accessories. Exposed shelving, vintage seating and durable appliances maintain a practical and unfussy feel, while subway tiles, modern farmhouse sinks and sharp looking faucets keep this style up-to-date.

I love this style! I'm going for a similar look in my guest bath, and my whole house is sort of eclectic with industrial touches, and I'm leaning a lot more towards modern recently.
These are amazing ideas - as we're thinking of renovating our kitchen and in perfect time for me to present to my husband who is a bit of a traditionalist with kitchen styles (as I just learned).
The common trend here also which I'm seeing more of is the absence of top cabinetry. Yes. I love that. Who needs cabinets that are so hard to get to anyway. I love the light, clean and modern look of open shelves on top and practical large drawers on the bottom. Awesome for your pockets too - I don't think the kitchen manufacturers like this trend so much.
I still need to do lots of convincing here on my end...
Please pitch pros to go topless in the kitchen! ;)
Finally!! I was getting really tired of the white kitchen in Ina Garten/Somethings' Gotta Give style overload.
These are really beautiful! I'm with @lifeologia, wanting to remodel my kitchen but realizing just how far apart my DH and I are, design wise.
LOVE the rolling doors of upper cabinets for #8!
I live in a dusty area, and would like to hear about experiences from people who've lived with open/semi-open shelves.
Finally - please AT - run a piece on kitchen floor plans - and how to reconfigure in the most practical way. I have the biggest tiny kitchen (large # square foot, but hardly any practical counter space). Like lifeologia, I need a good sales pitch!
I absolutely love these designs...especially photos 1 & 2. Thanks for sharing!!
Love the look, but #2 seems completely dysfunctional, lots of walking involved without a kitchen island, lots of carrying from fridge to counter space. Same for #10....why is the prep center so far from the stove ?
In answer to lazy_lurker, I lived with open shelves and the Julia Child hanging-pots-and-implements-look for years. Love the look and convenience of just being able to grab what you need, but you have to be a display artist. Also, everything that isn't used regularly gets greasy and dusty, as do the shelves, so every few months you have to put everything through the dishwasher or wash by hand, and give the shelves a thorough cleaning.
In my current kitchen I have ton of drawers and cabinets and wouldn't go back for anything. The plain old dark wood cabinets look cool and industrial enough against hanging lights and a stainless steel chef's prep table as an island and I like the contrast of old and new.
minor asides: Costco has the cheapest Metro-style racks, and fingerprints disappear from stainless steel you're not eating from, with Pledge. Happy Cooking !
Photo 8, which I really like, has been used so many times on this site that I think I'm going to make a drinking game out of spotting it...
these kitchens look SOOOO expensive. Double viking, double wolf? I wish we could see some kitchen renovation ideas that were more affordable.
IKEA sells really euro, cool looking affordable applicances, can you really not use your imagination to picture a different brand?
I do, & I have, & I don't have a kitchen island (the concept of which I would never understand), & yes, my husband cooks a lot
I absolutely love this look, and it gives me some great ideas for a new kitchen. @lazy_lurker, I have the exact same problem with my kitchen and am collecting ideas. Let me know what you come up with!
I love industrial modern. Keep this stuff coming AT.
Love it. The table needs to be wood.
Wow, these are amazing! I wish I had a big enough kitchen to pull off some of these ideas. HAHA!
Interesting. For myself, I'd especially like to see more ideas for small double-sided (corridor) galley kitchens. Thanks.
