Once again today, we spent some enjoyable time digging through the archives at Normal Room, one of our favorite sites for seeing how people really live. As it is always interesting to view apples next to apples, we are looking at kitchens only. From all around the globe, these are the spots where meals are made and enjoyed.

It was nice to see how comfortable, warm, and welcoming each kitchen was, yet how modest. It's a refreshing change from American shelter magazines photos of ridiculously upscale kitchens the size of a small temple.
Ikea gets around.
I love these posts. It's so much fun to look at rooms from around the world.
I agree, love to look at kitchens but wish the info was below the pic, now I have to go thru it all again and try to remember which is where.
Do enjoy the the variety from around the world.
I love this post. Gets me thinking about renting apartments when i travel and cooking up local cuisines.
I love posts like this! I would love them even more if they could be posted like a house tour gallery, with the info right over the pic (like sassydo said). Pretty please?
: ( no one from italy.
Anyway nice idea.

Here's one from Brescia Italy
Nice - enjoyed looking at the pics, but I don't think you can actually use the words "Around the World" for this post!!
Well 1 and 12 aren't kitchens per se - they are dining areas
and number 2 is just a fireplace - no indication that its actually used as a kitchen at all
most of them look so depressing...
Violet, the Swedish kitchen almost always is the dining room; a separate dining room is very very rare in Sweden.
Like the Swedish kitchen cum dinig space area. it sure is good to look out of the window while sitting an denjoying your meal after a long day.
Enjoyed watchingthese pics. Nice to see how different people have adopted different style of living.

Yes but we didn't get to SEE the kitchen bit - just the dining bit...
Well, that looks like a fairly typical Canadian apartment kitchen, all right.
