Vintage Danish furniture is alive and well in Emeryville. Next time you're in the area, consider bypassing the behemoth purveyor of particle board that resides in the same city and head for Klassik by Lynne instead.
Founded five years ago by Danish-born Lynne Jensen, the showroom specializes in vintage Danish (and Swedish) furniture, sourced and imported directly from Denmark. On any weekend (they're open Thursday through Saturday), you might find items from designers such as Arne Jacobsen, Hans J. Wegner, Kai Christiansen, Arne Vodder, and Peter Hvidt. Check out the website, which lists items currently in stock, along with descriptions and prices. If you spot something you just must have, but you can't make it to the East Bay right away, you can call or email and they'll reserve the item for you.
Klassik by Lynne also features lighting, art, and accessories -- some old, some new. Pricing is competitive -- not with IKEA, but then the showroom is for buyers of classic, investment pieces, not those looking for disposable furniture. Update 04/08: Klassik by Lynne has moved to a 5,000 sq. ft. warehouse/showroom (the correct address is listed at the top of this post). We'll have new photos soon!
