I like colorful kids' rooms. For me, it's about what they like and not adult taste. I don't mind if it's not a "room to grow into" because I like to change things up frequently.
I made the name banner on the crib with new and vintage fabrics. I also added the ric rac to the crib skirt. The "You are my sunshine" artwork was made by me, the watercolor is of our dog was done by my FIL. The zebra painting was bought on our trip to Africa and the bunny pastel was bought on our trip to China. The granny square blanket and dog quilt were both made by my aunt. The rug and mobile are from Land of Nod. I got the rocker free from the side of the road and reupholstered it. I got the dresser for $40, repainted it and added old water valves for knobs I bought on Etsy.
I love hanging out in the room and look foward to seeing it evolve as he grows!
Thanks Michelle!

Very pretty! The one thing I VERY STRONGLY RECOMMEND (which is the nicest way I can say: ALARM!!! ATTENTION!!! ACHTUNG!!!!) is that you must get rid of any cord or rope or ribbon on the baby crib. That is a very, very serious choking hazard, as the baby can putt the banner up and through the slats, wrap around the neck (even if only once) and then... Seriously. Get rid of the banner on the crib. Very dangerous.
My grandmother remembers casually tossing her apron on the edge of the crib, walking way, and returning two minutes later to find that her son (my father) had gotten tangled up in the ties and was turning blue.
For us, we had what we thought was a short rope attached to the handles of our French doors so little kid couldn't open them all the way to let herself outside. Then we found that she was able to get her head into the small loop and Oh, did that thing ever get tossed out lickety split.
Kdis are curious. They pull. They wrap. The put their heads in things to see what fits. And they're not smart enough to get themselves out of even the simplest of binds.
...and my choking, I mean strangulation. And by putt, I mean pull. Of course. :)
What a bright and happy room for your son! I bet he loves it. Nicely done.
I absolutely love this room, but I completely agree on the get rid of the banner comment.
Delg, if you have a moment, would you consider sending the AT editors a note? This is one of two strangulation hazards I've noticed in kids' rooms/nurseries, and I've only started to pay attention very recently (got a kid room of my own to decorate).
The email contact of the editors is available on the main page on the bottom left.
I sent them a note, but no reply, and apparently no editorial changes (deleting this post, or posting an easy to read word of warning).
