While we've seen many different types of plastic chairs, these are the first that we've come across that are actually made out of felt. This type of molded felt is also 100% recyclable, which just goes to show you how much you can do with that material.

The Kola chair, which is available in a few different configurations, was created by Finnish designer Mikko Laakkonen. All of them are made out of 100% recyclable molded polyester felt, with either an epoxy coated or chromed steel base. That's an interesting choice of materials, especially since it can be recycled. The other thing is that they must be quite comfortable. Plastic chairs aren't the most comfortable chairs around, but using a different material like felt will make them easier to live with.

Naturally, these chairs also look stunning, so they would fit well in an office or a home, but we could also see them in a restaurant or lounge. They'd make unique chairs for any eco-friendly dining room. The ones with the small handrests seem particularly functional.

The Kola chair won the GOOD DESIGN award and there's no doubt in our minds that these chairs will continue a trend in sustainable design. All in all, felt is a material that we'd like to see more often in furniture.
