We'll do pretty much anything to keep mealtimes interesting and so far these have been doing the trick at breakfast. One day we just surprised our toddler with a magical "bunny egg" and she's hooked.
We stumbled across these Japanese egg molds on Amazon and they're easy to do and add that something extra to a hard-boiled egg...a bunny face! If you're planning on coloring eggs for Easter and you might have a lot of hard-boiled eggs in your fridge, it might be a good time to give these a try.

Shaw's Original Fir...
You might have an issue with using eggs already in the fridge. You really want to use the mold on a freshly cooked egg.
I have these and just like blackcatherine (and the included instructions) said, the mold works only on a freshly cooked and peeled still hot egg.
It works great though, and you can add a special touch by lightly dyeing the egg afterwards.
Although it does work best with eggs that have just been cooked- it also works if you peel your egg and sit it in warm water for a minute. I've tried it both ways. Enjoy everyone.
Sounds fun. Can you add a picture of what the egg looks like after being molded?
Bought these a couple of years ago thinking I would make cute boiled egg figures. They never came out looking right. Must be doing them wrong. We use these for playdoh molds. :(
We picked some of these up from our local Japanese market. They didn't look it from the outside, but I think they must have been for ostrich eggs...or maybe 2 boiled eggs per mold? It was almost comical how big they turned out to be! I really want to try this again, with a more appropriately sized mold.
Is it just me that thinks food shouldn't have to be "fun" and "interesting"? Kids should be brought up to be thankful for any food they have, not be entertained by it. Sorry, pet peeve.
yeah its just you midsummernight. i make food fun! my parents also made food fun. hope your birthday cake is fun :P
CMLAU- eggs are suppose to be boiled, peeled, and dunked into ice cold water. the size of egg also is a factor. i just looked these up the other day.

the above link has instructions on how to use these. including when your egg goes oops, and adding color to your white egg.
Parties and cakes/sweets are one thing, but everyday food? Must be cause I was raised in developing countries. Food is thought of differently there.
I bought these recently, and we use it as a mold for a cooked rice (as it said on the package); cooked eggs are not a real favourite in our home
@MidSummerNight, unfortunately sometimes the best efforts of parents still have picky eaters. Making food fun can be a great way to have a picky eater try foods they normally wouldn't. Lighten up!
@MidSummerNight--then you should probably avoid Japanese food for children, which is typically made to be VERY fun and cute--you'd be 'peeved' all over the place! ;-D
I can see MidSummer's point, though.
I love these molds! I got them for my 3 year old daughter who already LOVES boiled eggs. She gets a kick out of them.. Another thing is that you might want to roll the eggs around in the pot a few times while cooking so that the yolk stays in the center of the egg, it helps with the over all shape of the molding process.
If the yolk rests to the side, it might blow out or set funky.
Although I understand Midsummer's point,
Kids appreciate creativity and fun with food. I don't think the point is that you have to make things fun just to get them to eat. It's just enjoyable and boosts happiness.
Good points, guys. It's not to say I don't appreciate cute things, I definitely do. I guess as long as you get kids to appreciate that they have food, making it cute is not harmful. :)
A friend of mine was living in Japan and sent me 2 of these a few years ago... It's cute and I'm saving them for when my 3 year old heads to school in a few years. for now, while it would be fun, I don't want to get it where I HAVE to do it just to get her to eat an egg. Special treat is one thing, every day...well, personally she'll either eat or starve and ...
