Name: Kyle
Location: Madison, Wisconsin
This is my first apartment where I am living on my own, as an undergraduate! I wanted a studio apartment that allowed me to develop and expand my style, and this apartment could not have been a more perfect place for that to happen.
Before I moved in I started following Apartment Therapy religiously, and planned ahead for a lot of what I wanted to do, and could do in a small space (450sq/ft). I am really proud of how I have used my small space and want to share how you have helped me!
My inspiration is a eclectic mix of antiques, mid-century furniture, and a touch of masculine motifs.
Thanks, Kyle!

Hard to really visualize. Home tour please!
I agree, it's hard to visualize, but I like what I see. The buoy on the wall, copper hanging baskets, and the bench at the end of the bed are great. I've always liked the look of bookshelves and whatnot held up with bricks and cinder blocks.
Is that a folding chair above the bed? ... clever!
I am insanely impressed by how put together this is because when I was an undergrad living on my own, I was nowhere near this put together. This place is fantastic!
When you get a chance, give us your paint colors! And where you got those really great curtains by the table.
you made it your own, looks very cozy.
Love the leather desk chair at the table.
I see part of a nice couch, who is it from?
I'm looking to move in to an apartment about this size soon - I would love a floorplan! And by the way, I love those green chairs :)
I like the bar. Sophisticated compared the my "bar" in college.
warm elegant space -well done !
great space! where ever did you get that bust?
Undergrad? Kyle, you're living the good life. Well done.
Nothing says "masculine motifs" like a bowl full of balls! But seriously folks, true confession: in one of my undergrad living spaces, my roommate and I sponge-painted a border with silver and black paint and had silver lame curtains. Let's just say that Kyle is slightly ahead of where I was.
what a lovely apartment (and let me add to the others that this is leaps and bounds more fabulous than my undergrad abode). Mad props!
Your apartment is charming. Well done.
I am impressed.
Thanks for all the great comments! I am so excited this got posted. I could only post 5 pictures, sorry I couldn't give more of a feel of the layout of my space.
Q/A:
Bust - Family Antique
Couch - Craigslist (no label)
Functional folding chair above the bed... YES
The bed/bench are made from shipping pallets (with canvas stapled over top)
Curtains - Made them myself
Bowl full of... croquet balls
Desk chair - found on the curb, no joke (Montgomery Ward)
Thank you so much for all the great comments! - Kyle
it was a lovely surprise to see a fellow wisconsinite on here. it all looks so good and full of wonderful diy ideas. thank you for sharing
Well done Kyle! It definitely feels both masculine and inviting. I would chill here!
Madison has some amazing thrift stores and many estate sales. Absolutely amazing job of pulling in cool pieces! Reminds me of Chicago for some reason.
Your first apartment? What a great sense of style you have! A wonderful aesthetic. Lush and masculine. Wonderful!
my thoughts exactly. very impressive.
Really, really nicely done. Love the bust. As a previous poster said, hard to visualize the layout but I like what I see.
Wow, this looks great! Definitely see a house tour coming!
