Simon and Linda have a good question about making the most of the living room area in their new apartment:
So we're very excited about our new apartment and our new couch and chair from The Sofa Company but as you can see, everything's brown! Should we keep the coffee table? Should we keep this arrangement? What do we do next?

We think you've made a great start. Brown's a versatile neutral. We especially like it with light blue and with green. We'd start with a great piece of art over of the couch and a taller table lamp in the corner. And we'd swap out the pillows that came with your couch for something much livelier. Go for something with a print or design. West Elm usually has good selection. We think a more substantial coffee table might be a better fit with your furniture than the (admittedly great) Danish modern surfboard table that you have. A rug is another way to add interest to your room; since your living room's really one corner of a L-shaped space that has an office area at one end and a dining area at the other, it would define the parameters this area. We know they're everywhere but we think a good spotted cowhide rug is always a fun choice.
Does anyone else have any suggestions, ideas, recommendations? How did you take your living room from blah to brilliant?
