The original Tortoise store on Abbot Kinney has long been a favorite stop of ours for inspiration. Now they've opened a second location, a little further south on the block where they carry larger pieces both custom designed by the owners and also imported from Japan (like an incredible wooden bathtub).

We love the restraint that Tortoise has always had, they never cram too much in a store, so you have time to really look at what they have. This new store has more one-of-a-kind Japanese and vintage products, artists' pieces and furniture. As we mentioned, some of the furniture is designed by one of the owners, Taku Shinomoto. We especially love his ingenious stools that fit perfectly (and very streamlined) against a wall for a small landing strip of extra seating in a small space. The older store, just up the block will become the Tortoise General Store, carrying more everyday goods, we can't wait!
