In the midst of refinishing a bureau we found on Craig’s List, we find ourselves stuck for hardware. We're looking for something highly polished and silver in color, with a chinoiserie feeling, but all of the handles and knobs we like are brass; anything we find in polished nickel is too “kitchen” to go with our curvaceous bedroom bureau. The Chippendale-style pulls Kelly Wearstler uses, and sells through her website ($60 per piece), are one option...

Another option is West Los Angeles Plating Company. As one of the few places in town that’ll happily handle small jobs, they can transform brass pulls into polished nickel – or satin nickel, copper, brass, gold, or pewter -- for a reasonable cost. Because of environmental regulations, they can’t handle chrome jobs but they’ll try and accommodate any and all of your other plating needs.
