Today's LA Times House and Garden section feature story is about a modern interpretation of a "country home." Steve Sharpe took a long time (two decades!) to build home in Somis (in Ventura County), and the end product is very different from what he originally thought he was going to build...

He originally envisioned "an East Coast country estate with arched doorways, white columns, even a formal ballroom..." but over the years, financial restrictions slowed the process down, and he also acquired a taste for more modern design. His architect, Zoltan Pali, says "Rural has always been associated with simplicity, sparseness and function, That is this house..." Check out the interesting story behind this home here and don't miss the slideshow. (The views are gorgeous!)
