Jennifer's Woodsy Tablescape

We frequently talk about using our own backyard for bringing the greenery indoors. Succulent cuttings grow to make a welcoming entryway and colorful sprigs from blooming plants always cheer our space up instantly. Jennifer and friends have the same idea--taking cuttings from plants, pine cones and other woodsy finds which make a beautiful tablescape...

Glass jars get a second life as containers for rocks and twigs and dried leaves. Twine wrapped around the jars gives them texture and a natural feeling that keeps the look cohesive. Jennifer also reuses burlap sacs as table runners by cutting them down the middle. Mats made of cork serve as the tables placemats lending to the eco-friendly vibe. Instead of going out and buying woodslice coasters, Jennifer chooses to make them herself (awesome). A simple but clever idea, seat assignments for guests are indicated by a pear with their name tag attached.

I did that one year with pyracantha cuttings for a Thanksgiving dinner table display. It looked great until I noticed the spiders.

The aerial view is pretty, but people sitting on opposite sides of the table would not be able to see each other. So, low marks for practicalilty/socialability.

I guess the dirt-bug-phobes don't do picnics, either?

I prefer being able to communicate with the person across the table to staring at fancy tablescapes. Even on picnics, people usually use blankets and cloths to put as much distance as possible between soil and food.

No worries, everyone communicated fine with the centerpiece. It actually looks bigger in the photo than it really was. The wheatgrass was completely hydroponic, so no dirt; nor was there any dirt in any of the plants we used. Some were dried (inside, of course) and we made sure everything was clean and bug free before we used it on the table. :)

I think this looks beautiful, I love the pears! I'm surprised to see most of the comments focusing on potential impracticalities and glossing over what a creative and artistic display this is. I want to be one of the guests!

Also, I don't understand all the worries about bugs and dirt, that centerpiece looks as clean as any vase of flowers.

I couldn't stand to be at a table with that much STUFF on it. I prefer a simpler tablescape . . . I'd rather have nothing than so much you can't see the table.

Stunning! I love the plate textures combined with the pears and piece of fern across the napkin.
