What inspired you to use color? My life. Feng Shui is entirely too complicated for me, but I do like the idea of yin and yang and try to use color to set a mood that is appropriate to the use of the space and also to reflect the personality of me and my family. My color palette is consistent throughout all of the rooms in our small home, which helps the flow. But I try to use varying intensities of the same family of colors to suit the different needs and uses of each room. The kitchen is an energetic and social place, so the bright tiles and colorful pottery really pop against the white. But the bedroom colors are kept more muted. Fashion, mid-century architecture, interior design, and nature all provide me with inspiration.
Color Tip: When choosing color, consider both the mood you want to convey and the way that you will be using the space. I chose white for all of the walls (except for the nursery) because it creates a nice contrast to the dark wood floors and offers a warm, uncomplicated canvas for all of my colorful pieces of furniture, pottery, art, and various collections. The white keeps things crisp, sunny, light, and casual, which perfectly suits our life. It also makes for an easy change-up. Toss in a new lamp shade, area rug, and some throw pillows, and the look completely changes.
Colors Used: Walls: Writer's Parchment by Ralph Lauren. Baby's Room: Palladian Blue by Benjamin Moore. Exterior: Harrisburg Green with Simply White trim, both by Benjamin Moore. Front Door: Martha Stewart New Grass by Sherwin Williams.
Fall Colors Introduction -------------------------------
Welcome, everyone, to our Fourth Annual Fall Colors Sharing & Contest. We're looking for the most beautiful & colorful home in the world and sharing all of the great ideas we get with our readers. This year we're amping things up and hoping to do things better than ever. There are two basic phases, the Sharing Phase and the Voting Phase...
1. Sharing Phase - you comment, judges decide
The 40 best, completed entries will be posted on a daily basis for three weeks. You can view them all at anytime via our new, improved contest pages under ALL ENTRIES. During this time your comments are VERY IMPORTANT as our six judges will be choosing 16 finalists from each region based on comments and their own colorful opinion.
2. Voting Phase - you vote till you drop
Starting October 20th, finalist voting will begin on a daily basis through our new bracketed voting system, which will pit our 16 finalists against one another until only one remains. Sound exciting? We hope so.
Best, Maxwell

what is that coat hook above the yellow fiberglass rocker? it looks like a hang it all but slightly different. i actually like it better than the hang it all.

Way to represent Texas! I love the colors! Subtle, but with just enough pop. The plates across the wall are perfect.
One thing I keep wondering when I see plates hung on walls, is HOW do you hang a plate on a wall? Anyone?

So great! Love the tile in the kitchen and all the artwork (and the pink chair with the deer!). Also, yay Fredricksburg!

Oh, lovely. My favorite so far.
I am a sucker for the plate arrangement - so well-done! And it is a great example of editing to me - just the right amount of dark and light pieces, and not too much overwhelming color but what's there really pops.

The hanger is Eames. This room is my fave, too. Love the way this hanger combines with the artwork and the pillows! Besides the carefully choosen colour scheme there are some great details, like the beautyfull sisal (?) rug in the sleeping room, the teak desk and the Saarinnen chair.

That "We Are So Good Together" poster, a past fad that has now become passe, or one in the making?

This house has a fantastic sense of balance and color. The two things I love the most? The plates floating across the wall and the way the front door greets you. The front door welcomes everyone into your world:)

Love it! Like the flower thingy in dining area.
That orange squarish plate... is that Rivieraware? My great-grandmother had a bunch of those that Mom ended up with.

Love the feel of this house. Great job at integrating those crazy tiles into the overall color scheme. I also like that the walls aren't painted bold colors...it really makes the accessories stand out.

nicolezh: i thought so at first but the eames hanger has 14 knobs that are different colours than the ones show in the pic. also the hia's structure is white not chrome. my store carries herman miller and they only have one version of the hang it all so this must be something else. love it nonetheless...

I love this house! She did such a great job of using a lot of color without it being overwhelming. She has a great talent for smart decorative restraint! There are unique one-of-a-kind items throughout, this is my favorite so far.

Sorry it has taken me so long to get to the hanger debate. It was purchased from a children's site, Modern Tots, I think. I don't think it is an Eames. I'd remember that. We actually re-painted all of the balls from the primary colors it came with to colors that better suit our home. We picked up 5 or 6 cans of different spray paints for an easy project.
