What inspired you to use color? I'm an artist (painter) and handbag designer, so throughout my life, color has been the focus. Even rooms with white walls are plastered with colorful art and accessories with bright floors.
Color Tip:I love layering multiple shades of the same color. Group all your yellow books on one shelf and all your reds on another.
Colors Used: Glidden "Cold Cash" in the front room, Kilz "Pickling Spice" in the limey green room. Valspar "Toasted Cinnamon" on the floors.
Fall Colors Introduction -------------------------------
Welcome, everyone, to our Fourth Annual Fall Colors Sharing & Contest. We're looking for the most beautiful & colorful home in the world and sharing all of the great ideas we get with our readers. This year we're amping things up and hoping to do things better than ever. There are two basic phases, the Sharing Phase and the Voting Phase...
1. Sharing Phase - you comment, judges decide
The 40 best, completed entries will be posted on a daily basis for three weeks. You can view them all at anytime via our new, improved contest pages under ALL ENTRIES. During this time your comments are VERY IMPORTANT as our six judges will be choosing 16 finalists from each region based on comments and their own colorful opinion.
2. Voting Phase - you vote till you drop
Starting October 20th, finalist voting will begin on a daily basis through our new bracketed voting system, which will pit our 16 finalists against one another until only one remains. Sound exciting? We hope so.
Best, Maxwell

Some parts are really beautiful and others are downright hideous. I can't decide on this one.

This entry started out with a bang and ended with a whimper.

Not sure about that last picture, but otherwise I loved this entry. To me, it was funky, fun, bright, and artistic. I only wish my house could express my personality this well. And I love the greens in particular.

I agree with the other posters about the photos. The first few pics were great, showing bold colors and fun vintage furniture and accessories. The last two pictures look odd and cluttered. But I still really like this entry. There is definitely a fun and funky vibe throughout this home.

So far, it's a sweep. My heart took a leap at the gorgeous exterior in the first pic, fluttered at the entry in pic 2, then rapidly slowed to a dull thump-thump-thump at the remaining pics.
Outstanding exterior; most of the rest: meh.

This a fun, cute space, and I like just about everything, except for the rug in the 2nd picture. It doesn't fit somehow. But overall, you've mixed such wildly diverse objects so very well.

I really enjoyed this home...and its many colors. HOWEVER, i would reconsider the flooring..perhaps a different color. I just do NOT like it at all. Its too stark.

Its quit fun and has a good vibe. Thank you for not housing the home of cb2, west elm, ikea, pottery barn and all the usual suspects of accessories and art.

Oh god, how much do I love those chairs with the gold motifs. Orange pillows, turquoise walls--just great. And then they added all that crap. Oy. People, do not buy stuff just cause it's cheap. What is lacking is a sense of composition (um, not good for a painter), but this person does has an eye for objects and colors at times.

I really, really like this!! It's beautiful, but not in a traditional mass market stuff way. It's not like she raided west elm, which I appreciate way more.

Wowza, what a place! From the lanterns in the bedroom to the spicy floors and lust-inducing walls of artwork, this space is killer. It's original, creative, vibrant, and fabulousâwith a cherry on top. My favorite, by far.

Thanks for all your comments! It's true that I have a hugely diverse mix of objects and furniture. I come from antique dealer grandparents and inherited their attraction to fantastic old pieces.
I apologize for the confusion and clutter in the last couple of pics. Those are of my painting studio within my house. The floor is splitleveled and the floors are 15 ft. Since the space is so tall, and divided, I wasn't able to get a good shot that clarifies the layout. I also wanted to show the space as I use it with those little details like the green pots of paintbrushes on my antique cabinet-turned-painters-palette and my Elaine Bradford log sculptures which I treasure. I always prefer to see pics of homes that are obviously lived in instead of those that look like model homes. I think art is one of the best ways to add punches of color to neutral walls...especially for the renters of the world who aren't allowed to paint their walls lime green and floors red. I appreciate your comments!
