fallcolors2.jpgName: Phil Strong
Location: Santa Barbara, CA
Type of Home: Two Story Home

What inspired you to use color? Colors from the local farmers market where you can find all sorts of amazing fruits, veg and flowers. Also influences from Japan & China where i travel to often, and can find echoed in San Francisco architecture.

Color Tip: Be Bold ! Keep a simple two/three color theme on the walls, and in key pieces of furniture. Look in your own yard and community for inspiration. Look, and trust your eyes.

Colors Used: None provided.

Fall Colors Introduction -------------------------------

fallcolors1.jpgWelcome, everyone, to our Fourth Annual Fall Colors Sharing & Contest. We're looking for the most beautiful & colorful home in the world and sharing all of the great ideas we get with our readers. This year we're amping things up and hoping to do things better than ever. There are two basic phases, the Sharing Phase and the Voting Phase...

1. Sharing Phase - you comment, judges decide

The 40 best, completed entries will be posted on a daily basis for three weeks. You can view them all at anytime via our new, improved contest pages under ALL ENTRIES. During this time your comments are VERY IMPORTANT as our six judges will be choosing 16 finalists from each region based on comments and their own colorful opinion.

2. Voting Phase - you vote till you drop

Starting October 20th, finalist voting will begin on a daily basis through our new bracketed voting system, which will pit our 16 finalists against one another until only one remains. Sound exciting? We hope so.

Best, Maxwell

Nice to see an entry from my hometown! We absolutely have the best farmer's market on the South Coast; the inspirations to be drawn from it are boundless.

Good luck in the contest!

If you say so. That big orange sofa isn't inspired by anything but a landfill. Too many tight shots, not enough rooms.

just painting two walls in your apt doesn't make it well and colorfully decorated

But they have pots...and pumpkins.

Yikes, they must be scraping the bottom of the barrel.

there aren't enough rooms shown, but of the rooms I see, I am not taken by the furniture, general decor, and the lack of wall decor bothers me

I love the green and orange combination. Those are happy colors.

the rude comments are snobby and classist. you guys have no idea what kind of budget or situation the residents are trying to work with.

i personally love the orange and green. the way the natural light plays off the green is beautiful. you've got a great foundation with the Asian decor. it totally works. definitely build on that.

I like the color selections (orange and green), but overall it seems unfinished. The major use of color is two walls painted with some throw pillows and lamp shades. Perhaps more color on the wall is needed or better placement of accent pieces. Not sure.

"the rude comments are snobby and classist. you guys have no idea what kind of budget or situation the residents are trying to work with."

That's a b.s. comment. Not liking pots and pumpkins is not "snobby and classist". It's called having an opinion. Obviously, you have an one, too.

And if we're supposed to start taking someone's budget into account, then let's have people start posting their budgets. For what it's worth, the homeowner stated that he often travels to Japan and China. So I think we can assume that he is not below the poverty line.

Personally, I like the green, and I like the orange -- just not together.
