What inspired you to use color? There's a peppy little song by O-Zone that says "I saw my strengths, my song and dreams and I bought some paints to match the colors of my love." What is in my heart comes out in the way I decorate my home for family and myself. We are a family of six and are loud and busy and happy and creative. I needed colors that say that. Above one of my doors I painted "I'm using all the crayons in the box!". Why? Because I have to! It's in my artist heart and it has to be birthed and expressed. Color is what I see in nature, and lots of it - used up and spilt out. You gotta love it.
Color Tip: Start with a "hub room" that the other rooms spiral off of. Choose a material, wallpaper or work of art you love. Choose your color palette out of that. I started with my kitchen drapery material and wallpaper because it is the central room in my house. The adjoining room colors came out of this palette. Well, except the purple. It was thrown in for good measure! My home has a lot of color but because it all comes from the hub room, it all coordinates. There is a place in my den where I can stand and see six different colored walls. I love that spot.

Fall Colors Introduction -------------------------------
Welcome, everyone, to our Fourth Annual Fall Colors Sharing & Contest. We're looking for the most beautiful & colorful home in the world and sharing all of the great ideas we get with our readers. This year we're amping things up and hoping to do things better than ever. There are two basic phases, the Sharing Phase and the Voting Phase...
1. Sharing Phase - you comment, judges decide
The 40 best, completed entries will be posted on a daily basis for three weeks. You can view them all at anytime via our new, improved contest pages under ALL ENTRIES. During this time your comments are VERY IMPORTANT as our six judges will be choosing 16 finalists from each region based on comments and their own colorful opinion.
2. Voting Phase - you vote till you drop
Starting October 20th, finalist voting will begin on a daily basis through our new bracketed voting system, which will pit our 16 finalists against one another until only one remains. Sound exciting? We hope so.
Best, Maxwell

As I look at all of the entries from all of the different regions in this contest, I am discovering that, decoration-wise, I must be a South-westerner at heart! Sure, there are some very nice entries in the Northeast section (where I live), but, compared to the exuberant, colorful, artistic entries like this one and many other recent ones from the Southwest, they all feel a little sterile. More chic than flavorful and personal. So, bravo! I love this entry!

Winner!!! You have an amazing knack with those deep rich colors. Your decor is not my personal taste, however you make me want to rethink that. You have nailed your space!

I'd feel so restless in this home. Too busy for my tastes.

I have to agree with Mrs.Mack...too busy. It's making me twitch just looking at all the stuff that has to be dusted.

I like it! I love the cloud painted ceiling and the painted vanity (the diamonds look like it's going to take a bite out of something!) And the asian robe hanging on the wall is wonderful.

This isn't restful or cohesive at all - too scattered and busy for my tastes.
In desperate need of editing (Love the Chippendale Chairs in the Dining Room, tho...)

I love all the colors that this quaint southern home has to offer. Is that Curious George painted above the doorway in the kitchen? How cute!

This is fabulous! I LOVE the use of vibrant colors in each room. The "cloud room" is soooo relaxing and soothing - I'd definitely spend all my time THERE! Great job!

This is the most amazing house - I just want to wander from room to room and study everything up close. It's a bold palette, yet your eye is led to restful places by subtle touches and layers of intrigue. Love the whimsy - I could live in the bathroom! Don't you just want to meet this family?
