Southwest #5: Kasey's Color Theory

Location: Austin, TX
Type of Home: Condo

What inspired you to use color? Color is what brings a living space to life, it's a form of expression and an element of connection in small spaces. I choose many of my colors because they were dynamic in their uses. The Red Wine color I used in my kitchen tower, I continued to use in one form or another in each room of the condo to form a connection between rooms and a sense of overall style. Small homes and condos can easily look disjointed if each room has an overly distinct style. Using colors to connect rooms to one another, gives the feeling of an overall organization and connectedness. Using Red Wine, shades of brown, gray, and green. I was able to make my 2 bed/2bath condo have unique styles in each room but also have each room feel like pieces of a whole.

Color Tip: For small spaces, pick a great color and use it in one form or another in each room. Whether it's a throw pillow or a painted accent wall, using a color connection brings unity to the space.

Colors Used: Red Wine, Feather Grey, others were color matches.

Fall Colors Introduction -------------------------------

fallcolors1.jpgWelcome, everyone, to our Fourth Annual Fall Colors Sharing & Contest. We're looking for the most beautiful & colorful home in the world and sharing all of the great ideas we get with our readers. This year we're amping things up and hoping to do things better than ever. There are two basic phases, the Sharing Phase and the Voting Phase...

1. Sharing Phase - you comment, judges decide

The 40 best, completed entries will be posted on a daily basis for three weeks. You can view them all at anytime via our new, improved contest pages under ALL ENTRIES. During this time your comments are VERY IMPORTANT as our six judges will be choosing 16 finalists from each region based on comments and their own colorful opinion.

2. Voting Phase - you vote till you drop

Starting October 20th, finalist voting will begin on a daily basis through our new bracketed voting system, which will pit our 16 finalists against one another until only one remains. Sound exciting? We hope so.

Best, Maxwell

I think this is my favorite so far. I love the color of the kitchen cabinets!

uh? I think the curtains are not very esthetically pleasing, and the photos are bad... maybe natural light would've done this place some justice.

the curtains are great, the tile is great, the rest needs a LITTLE tweaking b/c it kind of reminds me of a showroom. it's nice though.

is that tile in the bathroom? i like the kitchen cabinets as well, i'm a fan of darker-toned kitchens. hmm, is this condo in one of those loft things off of 5th?

Nice kitchen, like the color and the cabinets but the flash on your camera make it look strange...

this is my favorite! I love the wine color on the tower and very cool tile. I think the curtains are soft and add a warm touch. Very welcoming . Nicely done.
Love it.

People who start their comments with "uh?" are idiots. Why do you feel the need to type a grunt?

I'm a big fan of this one. The Red Wine color is beautiful and the idea to connect each room with a common color is great.

The tiles/cabinets in the kitchen are nice as well.

I see that the condo is located in Austin, Texas...where's the burnt orange? Haha. I kid.

i think the tile in this condo is incredible... and putting the red with the greens is a well thought out use of colors that are opposite on the color wheel. this is my favorite.

I love this kitchen! The Red Wine color is apropros for the space, and it complements the dark cabinets and tile colors so nicely. I really like the way the throw pillows in the bedroom coordinate, too.

This color combination is amazing! I love the use of various browns in the flooring and backsplash, complimented by the vibrant red accents. The space feels contemporary yet homey. Everything is tied nicely together without looking like a showroom. Great choices!

Absolutely gorgeous... what a unique kitchen! I love the Red Wine color and it is such a great compliment to the glass tile backsplash. And what a great chandelier above the dining table. I also love the color choices in both bedrooms, and while the color scheme is different throughout the condo, it flows perfectly without everything being too "matchy". This is a beautiful place - my favorite so far.
