This afternoon a friend remarked about the lingering cigarette smell remaining on their couch after a smoker friend crashed her pad. Cigarette odour is one of those tough, long lasting smells that can be absorbed quickly into fabrics and upholstery, and not exactly a welcoming home scent, if you ask us.
We sent our friend a link for Vamoose 1808T Tobacco Odor Eliminator, a product particularly formulated for odour removal; a 32 oz bottle can treat up to 500 sq. ft., containing an odour-eliminating chemical called Novexium, which converts the offending odour "to a non-volatile, odorless solid, irreversibly and nearly instantaneously upon contact". Supposedly, this is a favourite treatment in the hotel/hospitality industry, but we wonder if good ole vinegar would be just as effective.

Thanks for the tip, but the easiest way to get rid of cigarette odor is to not allow smoking in the house! A guest is supposed to abide by the rules of the host and I personally would never let anyone smoke in my house. period.

They didn't say that the smoker lit up. A smoker's clothes generally has been saturated with the smell of smoke, which will be passed onto the fabric of your favorite couch.
