Another Color Twist On Chalkboard Paint

063009_paint01.jpgChalkboard paint has made it's way through Apartment Therapy for a while now and we can see why - it's a fun and clever way to add a visual impact in your space while providing a platform for witty comments and friendly to-do lists. While standard black paint has been showcased quite a bit, we do like...

063009_paint02.jpg...the colored chalkboard paint lines that are available. We spotted the line, Hudson Paint, over at Point Click Home and think they have a nice color selection. We'd like to see painted stripes with chalkboard paint - that would be a neat way to use this resource. And if you are interested in a little DIY this summer, check out Maxwell's post from last summer on how to make your own chalkboard paint in any color you like.

What do you guys think about chalkboard paint? Have you tried mixing your own? Tell us about it. Also, check out Apartment Therapy Boston's survey on colored chalkboard paint.

i'm not so into the chalkboard paint idea - even classrooms don't use chalk anymore - so many people are allergic and i don't need any more dust in my house - got enough of that already. plus you get so dirty when you do use chalk - ick.

i'm curious if they do magnetic paint in colors. that's something i could use!

@Joan in SB - you can do magnetic primer and then paint over it in any color. Saw it at Home Depot this weekend. I think it was Rustoleum brand.

I used to hate chalkboards and chalk (I have some sensory issues with and and can't stand the feel of it in my hands) but as a parent of a toddler I can really appreciate how nice it is to not have to worry about stray marks on carpet, furniture, walls etc. because it is so easy to clean up. I'll tolerate the dust over spending an hour scrubbing crayon marks off my walls with a mr. clean magic eraser. I'm thinking of painting a wall in my son's room so I would definitely consider one of the colors. It's a pretty nice selection and easier than tinting your own I think.

Auburn is right, you can paint over the magnetic paint with any color you like.

I love the chalkboard idea. And stripes in different colors in a kids room- how cute!

I'll take chalk over whiteboard markers any day. As someone with allergies/asthma I find that the markers bother me a lot more than chalk dust ever did.

i will be chalkboard painting my toddlers closet doors this week... his walls are bright green so i opted for black to tone it down a bit. plus i love how colored chalk looks on black! he loves playing with sidewalk chalk so im sure he will love his doors! as far as the dust goes- we have a dog thats sheds quite a bit so i have to vacuum everyday anyways so i dont think the dust will be a big deal.

@acsmi24 - Don't know about this company but Rustoleum does. Only Black and green though I think.

I love chalkboard paint. I'm an artist and nothing makes me happier than to draw something that is just for me, something that isn't permanent. I can change it every day, or leave it up for weeks. I can draw beautiful art nouveau ladies, or mermaids, or monsters. I also use dry erase markers on mirrors. ^_^
