Have you ever noticed that there are certain spots you gravitate to in your home and others that never get used? In our house one of the spots where we always end up is the couch nearest the front door. This fact came to our attention lately when the woman who occasionally cleans our house pointed out that the cushions on the one couch were more noticeably worn than the ones on the other. What did we want to do about it?...
Hmmm.....the two couches are exactly the same so it's not like one is more comfortable than the other. The view to the tv's just about equal and in fact, the other couch, the one we use less often, should, in theory, be the one we gravitate towards since it has better access to where we park our laptop. There didn't seem to be any rational reason for the choice but it bothered us. And then we remembered something from the first week of the Home Cure (which we'll be starting up again in a few weeks) that challenged us to sit in a part of our home that we never sit in. So, as weird as it may feel, we're going to make a conscious effort to use the other couch instead. We're hoping it gives us a whole new perspective on our home.
What about you? Notice the places in your home you always gravitate towards. Are there places in your home that never get used? Is there a way to make them more inviting by adding better lighting, putting a place to put a cup of tea or a drink within easy access or a throw to cuddle under? This weekend, see if you can make a conscious effort to use the places that you never use (it might even be a whole room!). Let your feeling of being uncomfortable guide you in thinking about what changes you want to make in this spot. Share your favorite spots, your unused spots and what you're planning in the comments!

I have a whole room that doesn't get used much. It is the guest room and I rarely have overnight guests. I do love the space though and as a matter of fact it is my favorite place to go to read when I am engrossed in a good book. It is like a reading nook that encompasses an entire room: quiet, bright and sunny, comfortable, lots of pillows, no distractions, far from the door and basically just removed from my everyday space enough to let my mind get pulled into a good story. I believe I'll have to go find a good book now!

I'm going to try sleeping on the other side of my queen bed. Seriously. And clean off my art desk which is currently accumulating piles of art supplies placed there as I've been cleaning up. It sort of defeats the purpose of doing art, doesn't it? :-)

You have an ass groove!
I just got a new couch and though I was not in love with the Klippan I have now, I am actually going to miss the entire body groove I made in it, since i sleep on it so often.
I need to start hanging out in the bedroom. I didn't put a television in the room so that i'm "rested" byt now I sleep 3 to 4 days a week on my couch because i need the tv to fall asleep.

that tubby cat is so adorable! 2 outta 3 of my kittehs are fatties but they don't have adorable, chubby faces like that.

If the sofas are identical, you could just switch the cushions for more even wear. I know that's not the point here, but...

Before we got our one and only upholstered chair, my spot was the right side of the sofa, right up next to the arm. My husband's friend was over one week and then came back again a few weeks later. He said to me, "You're still sitting in the same spot in the exact same position? You haven't moved at all?"
I don't use the left side of the sofa, I don't know why.
Since we got our upholstered chair (it's the most comfortable thing on earth), I haven't really used the sofa. So this weekend, I'll make a point of sitting on the sofa again. At least for a minute.

I'm guessing that you favoured one sofa over the other because of the proximity to natural light and also because you had a view of the world out that window.

I tend to go in cycles. I'll spend a month or so sitting at the kitchen table and rarely going into the living room and the one day switch it up and spending all my time on the couch in the living room. I favor the corner by the wall because it's the one with the lights and proximity to an outlet. I almost never spend time in my bedroom unless I'm napping or sleeping, which is too bad since it's a lovely room and nice and cool and comfortable. I should rearrange furniture again and see if I can find a better balance.

I think it is possible to change the "favourite spot", but I think the number of those spots stays approximately the same. Meaning, you change the spot and desert the last fav for the new one. And I think it is natural way of things, which probably can not be changed. So why bother? By the way, Russians belive that if you buy a new place, let the cat first go into the apartment/house and see where the cat lies down. That is the best spot in the building. So may be in your case it is under te sofa table? ;)

The whole front room of my RV is pretty much useless. It has a dinette that seats four and two bucket chairs. I live alone and don't entertain; how much seating space do I really need?! I occasionally read in that space, but that's it. When I redo the RV interior this winter, I'll gut that room completely. I plan to put in a counter that will turn my corner kitchen into a U-shaped one and a glider rocker for reading, leaving me room for one more bookcase and some floor space to create a landing strip by the front door. I need a place to put my shoes and purse more than I need a chair!
