Apartment Therapy on Indulging in Home Moments

072209_cat.jpgMuch the same way having an idealized idea of what Sunday Morning ought to look like, we find ourselves often caught in the trap of what Summer ought to look like. Maybe it ought to be projects getting finished, or an exotic vacation or maybe just getting the air conditioner fixed so you can stop sweating. But for the good of summer and for the good of staying relaxed at home, we encourage everyone to indulge in the simple moments that make home, home:

Some of the moments that make home, home for us are:

• Noticing our animals stretching out in the sun, not a care in the world. Sometimes taking the time to join them on the floor.
• The way it's not too hot in the morning to open up the windows and see the park across the street. And then to sit and just look at it without doing stuff.
• The way it cools down enough in the evening to open those same windows back up and watch the sunset when we're home early enough from work to catch it.
• Clean Sheets.
• Seeing that the living room is a mess and sitting down and hanging out instead of staying busy and picking up.
• Watering the plants.
• Returning from a trip to find that for some reason, it just feels good to be home.
• Having friends over and making the biggest mess in the kitchen: so messy that if we were on our own we'd have a nervous breakdown, but with the fun of making the mess, it's all fine and great, even.

How can you find that disgusting. It's so calm and beautiful. Maybe if her ass was in a plate of meat, or there were dirty dishes around.

i allow my kittehs to do this - but let it be known that I ALWAYS santize and wipe all the tables they jump on before using them to eat/cook. The place looks pretty clean, so I bet the owner of the cat in the pic does this too.

Cat ass on the eating table, ummm no. I've had cats and they never got up on tables or counters.

LBhirise, are you sure? How do you know? My guess is cats go where they want, when they want, especially when they are told not to go there and especially when you're not around. Only thing to do, as chusmabilly says, is to clean the surfaces right before you prepare food or eat on them.

This is a lovely post, reminding us to slow down and take things easy, but it doesn't have anything specifically to do with summer (apart from the heat part): the ideas are good all year round.

We try to keep our cats off the table but they are constantly testing our authority.

You people amaze me. Cats on a table is unsanitary? I wonder how many of you are going to go the Howard Hughes route, sipping your dinner through a straw in an empty room covered in plastic wrapping.

My cats never went on the counters. I had one who would jump on the dining room table (and looked adorable, I might add). I wonder why some cats do and some cats don't? I have never tried to control cats, other than shutting them out of my bedroom at night.

I work ALL the time it seems so when I come home I heave a huge sigh and am so happy to be there, however messy or nutty it seems. I try to think of my house as my vacation house, and keep things as easy and relaxed there as possible.

Laure should have chosen a different photo to illustrate her point.

my kitty is on the table with me right now(he likes the heat from the laptop), when he was a small kitten we tried to get him out of this habit but its really pointless.

I love stretching out on the floor with my dogs and cat.

Watering the plants and yard are like the only time I can really listen to all the sounds around me. Its quite nice.

I have two cats. We do not let them on the counter/table.

The same paws they use to walk on your eating space, is the same paws used to walk in the litter box... yeah, that's disgusting.

I'm not a neat-freak, but cats on the table? It's a big no-no. I don't put my feet up on the dinning table, so why should a fury cat be allowed to go on it?

How exactly could the germs hop from the table surface to your food? Unless you're putting your food directly on the table, I don't see how cat germs could get on it.
