But I also love newfangled doo-dads and whizbang features, so we went all "aww golly gee whiz, that sure is keen!" when we saw this Cordless 1930's Retro Style Phone. Sans cord, the phone also has a concealed push-button dial, caller ID, call waiting, instant redial and three-line display. With a red paint job, Commissioner Gordon would approve. *Apologies: Jonathan posted this not that long ago before. I dialed the wrong number!

I have 3 phones in my house -- two of them are old rotary phones. I much prefer them to anything new. Great colors too: mustard yellow, bright orange and turquoise.
Retro.. vintage.. antiquities.. all making a big comeback in the design scene. And I like!
Reverting back to the basics means so much more character.. a good thing! (:
I love that old rotary ring, the new ones lack that.
I have a rotary reproduction from Pottery Barn, its ring isn't too far off from the originals -- its ring is just as ear-splitting, too.
I was at the Museum of Radio and Television last week watching some grade-school kids re-enact an old radio show ... when the sound effects woman was showing them how to make phone effects with an old rotary phone, they didn't understand what it was ... they actually asked her to show them how it worked! Then one girl (about 8) exclaimed, "Oh ... that's a back-in-the-day phone!"
Priceless. ;-)
Anyway, I love this thing ... I had two faux rotary phones before that both died (guess they don't make them as good as the old real ones!) ... I'd love to try this cordless one.
Getting a little off topic, but...
A few years ago I picked up two children I was babysitting in my ancient Camry. They could not figure out how to work the roller windows. They had actually never been in a car without power windows! Amazing.
Did you know that the most returned item at Pottery Barn is those phones?
For some reason they can't get the wiring right.
For those of us who don't have a landline, there is also the Hulger Penelope, a grand, bluetooth-enabled, retro cordless, beauty of a phone - gives better reception than my cell!!
It also works for VIOP - I love it and it decorates the room when it is just sitting there, looking pretty. I love the comfort of curling up talking to a good friend on the other end.
Something about the good old familiar, well made things that epitomizes comfort, doesn't it?
I got a retro wall phone. The buttons are in the rotary phone positions. I tell you, it takes a second to dial it, because I've gotten so used to the 12 keypad position. You *want* to dial it like a rotary and can't!
Not to mention how odd it is to be without Caller ID.
