On Target: Classic KitchenAid Standmixer

111207_kitchenaid.jpg

We've got food on the brain today at AT! I've been thinking about my trusty KitchenAid mixer and how grown up I've felt ever since I inherited it. Something about its presence on the kitchen counter lends credibility to whatever I'm making. The Target catalogue we got in the mail this weekend featured a super sexy new matte black version that might be even more grown up.

White or black (or yellow or blue or red, man they come in every color) the KitchenAid mixer is a classic and a it's a workhorse.

I lugged mine out and kicked off my holiday season making a pumpkin pie (which was totally delicious and not too sweet). It's also perfect for making bundt cakes without destroying my shoulder. I've vowed to use the mixer to continue a tradition of making sugar cookies for the holidays too(recipe out of The Joy of Cooking).

But what say you--have you got one? Do you want one? Overrated?

I have a purple one and I love it, I'm not a heavy baker, just casual and I still couldn't live without it.

We got the shiny jet black one for our wedding. My husband (the family cook) argues that it was the best gift we got, so much better than the formal china. He loves to use it for just about all of his baking.

Matte black! This is one of the finest developments in recent history.

I want one so much but there's not enough room in the kitchen for it.

I had one in red but I sold it when I moved to a smaller townhouse. I didn't have the counter space to leave it out and getting it out of the cupboard was a pain. I have a very good Kitchenaid food processor and an immersion blender. With those two things, I can make most anything.

Before I had my red mixer, I had the one that my mother got for a wedding present in 1953. I passed it on to my sister who still uses it. It doesn't have the attachments and the motor does not get faster between 8 and 10 but it works.

We just got one as a bridal shower gift. It's Ice Blue and amazing. I agree that it is a better gift than the China. :)
