Oxo Products: Building A Better Kitchen Supply Drawer

10-6 oxo .JPGOne of the thrills of a big move comes after the first month or so, when you can assess the damage, and start to look at not what you need, but what you want to make your house a home. Things like a good can opener and peeler.

We threw some Oxo items into our cart the during our last trip to Bed Bath and Beyond and felt that special twinge deep down that says, “Opening tuna will be a breeze!” and “ooh, let us at that English Cucumber!”

No more calluses from the old rusted metal can opener that sucked, but worked. And while we are not 100% happy with our peeler (we expect perfection, so we are often let down) The Oxo products do stand up to the test of time. Oxo might not have the best products on the market, we can justify the $5.00 (a piece) splurge. Anything higher seems foolish…at least until we get our club chairs re-covered.

The peeler is pretty far from perfection. Utter crap is more like it. A disappointment, considering that OXO is generally a decent brand.

i have the peeler shown in the picture & it seems ok to me, but i don't really have much of a basis for comparison. i do like the handle, which makes grasping & using the peeler more comfortable.

on the other hand, i have also tried OXO's "Y-type" peeler (not pictured) & was really disappointed w/ its crappy blade.

I have the plastic-handled Y peeler from IKEA (from 10 years ago) and it's great.

The OXO peeler is less bad than the cheap metal-handled kind that one's new boyfriend always turns out to have rusting in the back of his kitchen drawer.
