Roundup: Best Modern Electric Fans

061808electricfan-ru-01.jpgWith the next few days here in LA in the 90's and 100's, we're starting to rely on our trusty but homely electric fan. It does its job well enough, but we're not exactly blown away by its appearance. Here are a few modern decor-friendly choices to keep you cool this summer...

061808electricfan-ru-02.jpgHanil Electric 'EFL-509RDC' won the 2008 VIP (Very Important Product) Honoree in the Home Appliances Category and appears to be programmable.

061808electricfan-ru-03.jpgSwiss Propeller Fan: simple and sleek, this reminds us of airplane propellers of a bygone era. The nicest floor fan we've seen.

061808electricfan-ru-04.jpgHenning Boegershausen's Foldair Fan: a minimalist dream come true. And when you're not using it, just store it your bookshelf!

061808electricfan-ru-05.jpgVenti Remote Control Fan: The Venti fan has three speeds, oscilates and in addition to being fully adjustable is very attractive. It is "built entirely out of cast aluminum and steel to ensure durability" and can be free standing or wall-mounted.

061808electricfan-ru-06.jpgMarc Berthier's Tykho Fan: An established designer with works in the collections of MoMA and Centre Pompidou, Marc Berthier has a lot of street-cred. His Tykho Fan for Lexon features soft PVC blades and two speeds. Perfect for a backup breeze and we loved the way the colors worked with the design of the ATNY site!

061808electricfan-ru-07.jpgVintage Vornado Fan: Yeah, we know it's a replica of an old fashioned design. But we think it still think the 50's design looks utterly modern, and how can we not love the green paint job?

061808electricfan-ru-08.jpgPlus Minus Zero Fan: Some argue this fan is a beautifully bare bones fan of modernist sensibility. Others point out its similarity to a discount store special. We think it's both.

061808electricfan-ru-09.jpgEco Friendly Solar Powered Desk fan Kit: We're thinking of getting one of these for ourselves (actually our computer, which sits close to a window). Made from laser cut Perspex and powered by the sun.

061808electricfan-ru-10.jpgPropello: Made of an aluminum fan-body and soft natural rubber fan-blades, this fan is safe to accidentally touch even while on. Looks like it was taken off a modern watercraft, doesn't it?

061808electricfan-ru-11.jpgLa Luna: The most intriguing fan design of the bunch, the La Luna concept design is slim on details, but an extremely unique twist on the cylindrical style table fan.

The Swiss floor fan sounds like a 747 taking off. I have it and it's incredibly loud, esp. on a wood floor.

Is the Swiss Propeller Fan available in the US? It appears as if that website doesn't ship here ...

i like this post because i like all my things to be interesting and conversation pieces, especially everyday things- now only if i could buy them! the Henning Boegershausen's Foldair Fan doesn't look like its for sale. the Eco Friendly Solar Powered Desk fan Kit fan only ships to the uk. i can't find the la luna fan for sale. that leaves the Propello, but i need to start saving!

I like a loud fan, as long as it's not a rattle. I use a fan for the white noise to fall asleep and keep me asleep in my noisy neighborhood. It has to be loud enough to drown out those garbage trucks outside my window. *Love* that Vintage Vornado.

Hey Terry,

my parents have a tower fan from honeywell (i think)- it gives a great breeze, has a remote, and is very quiet. (they have theirs right next to the tv). while there is some noise, its nothing compared to some of these blade fans.

La Luna does not appear to be for sale.
http://www.hellohideki.com/

It also appears to be very small:

The price would be ridiculous, in that the Columbian coffee table is about 2500 pounds. Darned close to $5,000.00 US.

I have an idea. How about separating posts that are actually available from the ones that are concepts?

And maybe including WHERE the items are available to be shipped.

Like automobile sites are pretty clear about what a person can buy and what is some fantastical futuristic concept that will probably never reach the public. Grrr.

Like...Where's that 100 mpg, $15,000 hybrid? That is what I need. LOL!

Anyway, with folks being in different countries, it does help to know what is available where. And if it's on a city specific site, I would KIND of expect it to include items that were available in that city.

At least that is what I was told when I was sending in things to SF AT, that the links I send should have to do with the area that SF AT covers.
