Downloadable Tree House Plans

070708_tree.jpgInspired by our weekend adventure, we've been dreaming of having a home office in a tree house. We found some downloadable plans (even one for novices) so now all we need is a backyard and a big ol' tree:

Our very favorite it the San Pedro Treehouse. It's basically the classic one tree tree house. You can download plans for a 50 square foot tree house that you build in around 14 days. The download only costs $29 and it walks you through each step of the process. All materials and tools are readily available in major hardware stores and the plans feature two window seats and a covered balcony section.

Get them at treehouseguides.com.

We'd love to retreat up to our tree house to get some work done, maybe lay down, or just get away from it all...

This is so neat! My best friend and I always built a new fort each summer and I've been wanting to build a modern adult version for awhile...now all I need is a house with a tree since I don't think my landlord would like it if I built one outside my apartment window.

As usual, don't forget stuff like this:

"Depending on where you live and what type of tree house you want, you might need permission to build. Restrictions exist that limit height and distance from property lines. Usually permission is needed when your structure will overlook your neighbor's house. Talk to your neighbors as you start the design process. If they know what you're planning, they may be less likely to feel that you're invading their privacy.

If you're not sure what permits you might need or how to comply with building codes, talk to your local planning authorities or a contractor who is familiar with building houses -- they deal with these permits and codes every day."
