Zamore Kit Homes: Pre-Fab Quicker and Cheaper?

061608zamorekithomes01.jpgWith plenty of other pre-fab home designs out there already, Zamore Homes has set themselves apart not only with their Southern region styled shotgun homes, but also with the allure of quicker and more affordable on-site construction. The 400 to 2,200 square foot designs can be constructed quicker and for about $100 to $170 per square foot, depending upon design with a different approach to pre-fab assembly...

061608zamorekithomes03.jpgZamore Homes deviates from the typical pre-fab construction process by contracting out all the assembly to local resources such as IKEA and Sears near the building site, instead of hauling/shipping materials across country. With gas prices and tight budgets all across the country, the cost cutting move might be a good move on Zamore's part. And we certainly wouldn't mind the Southern style architecture with it's temperature soothing design here in LA. Now if they could only reduce the price of the land itself here, we'd be living in pre-fab comforts!

Brett Zamore built a home as part of the Biloxi Model Home Program, to replace the fema trailer the Parker family was living in.

There are tons of articles on the web about it. It sits up on piers. I love his work.

there used to be a photo of the Kaplan house bathroom online. Does anyone know where a copy of it can be found?

What an awesome idea! I'm not 100% sold on the long, narrow shape, though; it would be very limiting in terms of space planning (there's really only one way you can place furniture that makes sense). I wonder how involved one can get with the colors, et cetera. I do love the barn/cottage/storage locker look to it... genre-bending.

Has anyone also heard of Yankee Barn Homes? They are another pre-fab company, with lovely post-and-beam houses that are about twice as expensive as Zamore. You will drool a little. www.yankeebarnhomes.com

sorry, but to me, this looks a little too much like a rest-stop building!

Sweet! Brett Zamore's work is really awesome - he does a great job fusing modern sensibilities to the Southern vernacular. Nice to see it on AT!
