Well, we felt a little caught between a rock and a hard place when we came across these BetterWall museum banners.
While we are rather public about our loathing the idea of posters as art, these are truly beautiful images and also capture a moment in time.
You can shop by color, style or artist, and the website does a great job of showing the works in stylish settings so you can get an idea of the scope and impact the images will have.
The banners are not cheap (around $300 and up) but they are authentic, limited-edition street banners from museums around the world. They also have a size that demands attention on a wall, which we think is bold and very dramaticif you have the space.

On a very cool side note, a percentage of the proceeds of every banner sold go back to the museum.

FANTASTIC tip! I've always wondered what happened to these banners once the street campaigns have ended. I like overscaled imagery like this.
I've seen re-use applications of billboard imagery, as well. I think it was in Dwell... billboard nature imagery cut into mismatched/fragmented panels and re-used as an outdoor screen.
Thanks, Alec, for the reminder. I lusted after one of the banners last year. However, common sense prevailed; I don't have a place to hang one. YET. (all things come to those who are willing to rearrange.)
