Calendar Art: Another Use for An Old Calendar

022708_calendarart.jpgSo, I finally got around to opening yet another box that was tucked away at my parent's house. You may recall the last time I opened one of these boxes: it contained Sweet Valley High books that my friend repurposed as artwork for her vanity. This year, I found a 1998 Blue Note calendar with fantastic prints of iconic jazz albums...

...along with the realization that my 10-year high school reunion is coming up. (Gym membership is getting renewed tomorrow...) After waffling a bit on keeping it, I decided why not make see if some of these prints are salvageable? I chucked the ones that were dinged around the corners (or scribbled with, "I hate flute lessons"), got six Ribba frames from IKEA, and a few sheets of mat board to cut custom mats. End result? Not bad for repurposing an old find, and relatively cheap to make (about $150 for the set of six). I'm thinking about hanging them in a hallway in a neat row...

I love calendars as repurposed art. I've been rotating James Bond images from whatever Bond calendar comes out each year through the same three frames for at least a dozen years!

I recycle my old calendars, too! They're one of those things you can do 101 things with.

I love Nikki McClure calenders. I have a huge stack because I can't seem to throw them away. I've recently found two new uses for the old pages, which are printed on one side and blank on the other:
1) Make stationary and envelopes and gift tags. The images are very graphic and it's fun to play with the shapes and colors or to find an image that fits perfectly with the gift or letter.
2) as liners for my drawers (both kitchen and dresser.) It's very simple to trim and tape into place with double-sided tape. And it's a pleasure to catch a glimpse here and there of Nikki's images and words.

I love that someone else uses Bond calendars!

I've got two B&W classic Bond images up in frames in my bathroom. Since they were so cheap, I'm not worried about them actually getting ruined by moisture.

Met a Bond Girl at an event this past Sat in BH. She was very down to earth and knows how to make great food, too.
