Charlie Bidwell: Photographer

Enrique sent us a tip about a wonderful photographer called Charlie Bidwell. Based in Los Angeles, Bidwell shoots in black and white and uses negative space to offset the iconic images of architecture and road signs in his photographs.

The photos are both whimsical and moody, which we just love. And, while it's clear that the blog doesn't do the black and white images justice, it's not often that you see things like the Hollywood sign looking so fresh and new.

The images are quite large, but Enrique tells us that some smaller images are for sale at OK. There are a few more images below the fold. Really lovely stuff, no?

Thanks, Enrique!

Thanks for blogging this, Alec. This past Saturday, a small photo gallery in Palm Springs had an artist's reception for Charlie Bidwell. He's the lead photographer in a show entitled "Architecture," which will be up for a few more weeks. (One of the other photographers is Tom Bianchi, who's more known for his physique photography.) There are 20+ of his photographs up at Exposure. All the pieces are framed and sized at 40"x40" with $2500 price tag. When I showed up for the reception, Charlie told me that the image of the Sahara Casino signage had just sold. For NY AT-ers, his images of the Empire State Building and one of the World Trade towers are amazing.

[I believe that OK is only selling the Hollywood Sign and Statue of Liberty photos.]

Update: I just received an email from Charlie letting me know that every piece up at the Exposure show sold out during Saturday's reception! He had to start taking print orders for a few of the prints.

Thinking of buying the Hollywood print. Do you think it would be nice in a 20x24 or not big enough? Don't know if i can afford the 30x40...
