apartment therapy changing the world, one room at a time

I Wish I Spoke French...

[Today, we begin posting submissions from one of the three finalists in our search for a new Editor here at ATLA. We'll be posting one a day for the next three weeks, every Wednesday through Friday. We begin with a post from Grace of Pasadena. Tell us what you think.]

Does anyone remember when, a few years ago, there was an influx of graphic designers putting on art shows while concurrently "DJ-ing" and everyone showed up for free Red Bull and vodkas? And while that scene has either passed or moved to Culver City, here's one LA-based artist who managed to come out unscathed: Steven Harrington.

If you're in the market for affordable art to grace the blank walls of your home and want something a little left of the Urban Outfitters mainstream, Steven's work will fit the bill. My personal favorite? His latest limited edition reprint of "Un Royaume" (rough translation: A Kingdom We will Grow Together). It is pure 1970s French nostalgia mixed with California laidback soul--in short: this print makes me want to eat a croissant, wear a beret, and put Al Green's "Let's Stay Together" on the record player.

I already eat croissants and wear berets, but after reading this I have the undeniable urge to enter the Royaume on my tourne-disque.
