Love Your Hobby? Make It A Collection

093009_hobby01.jpgIf you are passionate about something, consider putting it on display as a collection in your home. We love going into our friends' homes and seeing their hobbies on display. Our talented musical friends has his collection of...

...guitars on display. They are so nice, why keep them hidden in their cases? Not only do they look good but add a cool new texture to the room. Another friend is an avid surfer and keeps his boards on display right in his home instead of stored outside. Your home is the best place to share your favorite things, hobbies, inspirations. Have fun with it!

What do you collect and display in your home?

I know too many guys (husband included) that would rejoice at this article as justification for buying more guitars...

other than that though, good idea

Sure it looks good on display but you have to be careful guitars are mostly wood so they are susceptible to the environment around them. The best temperature for your guitar is room temperature. Sudden changes in temperature can cause the finish to crack or more seriously, the wood itself.

When the humidity is very low or when the guitar is close to an air vent or radiator, the wood can dry out and crack. When the humidity is consistently too damp the wood can swell and cause the soundboard to reshape.

The best way to protect your guitar is to store it in it’s case. A case will protect it from changes in temperature.

I hang mine on wall. It's great to get them off the floor and now I have a corner that's strictly guitars taxidermy.

We have two guitars that are out, one in the living room and one in the guest bedroom/office/music room. We also have a (broken) model train on a ledge under a mirror in our dining room. My SO loves model trains and have multiple sets.

Another reason to keep things outside is that you will use them more often if you dont have to dig them out first.
