Simply Silhouettes

atla-060608-silo05.jpgOur visit to the Kara Walker Show, which we blogged earlier today, got us thinking about silhouettes. It's an art form we've always loved. Simply Silhouettes helps us bring it into our home in new ways.

I love silhouettes (have one of my dog in the bedroom), but given the troubling subtext Kara Walker's work finds in 19th c. silhouettes, it's hard to look at them in the same way again (i.e., as innocent decoration). Whenever I see Walker's work I always think I should take my silhouettes down!

I love silhouettes! My first one was at DisneyWorld in the 80s and latest at Disneyland last year. :)

I just took my cousin to Disneland and we got silhouettes on main street. I look like I have a mullet. It is awesome.

Karl was actually at the Kara Walker show doing original hand cut silhouettes for the attending guests. He had the pleasure of meeting Ms. Walker and cutting her silhouette portrait as well.
