apartment therapy changing the world, one room at a time

The Gallery: Leora Lutz

LeoraLutz_paintings.jpg
Not to start a feud or drama with any of our other AT cities, but we're coming straight out with the proclamation that our fair city, Los Angeles, has the best sunsets this side of French Polynesia. We love looking out westward each summer evening and feasting upon the sunset banquets that defy description (and arguably, defying natural origin too).

Los Angeles painter (and Felt Club participant and Etsy seller) Leora Lutz knows what's up. She's captured and painted a series of silhouettes showcasing the identifying outlines of the Los Angeles landscape in a spectrum of colours that may or may not sometimes appear in our city's skies. These 5" x 5" painting "began as an experiment in 2003", fueled by the memories of summer nights and the 1980's art scene, resulting in some darn eye pleasing artwork that will provide a glorious view whether the the forecast is for clear skies or not.

And for a very reasonable $75, we recommend you buy a trio or more of her work. We also recommend stopping by Lutz's own Chinatown gallery, Gallery Revisted, filled with similar spirited local artwork.

Leora Lutz sells on Etsy? Hot. I've seen her work online at Aunt Beep and in person at that fun home furnishings store on Chungking Road in Chinatown...

Re: LA sunset paintings. I'm also a big fan of Jay Brockman's Sunset on Sunset series of streetscapes. He's stopped doing this series about two years ago, but you can see some images here. http://www.jaybrockman.com/

My friend Libby bought several of these a couple of years ago. They capture LA right now, and they're small, so several look great on her wall.

Oh, Enrique! Why did you torture us with Jay Brockman??? His fabulous work is no longer available. And now, of course, I LOVE it!

Thanks so much for featuring one of LA's most fabulous artists - Leora really does capture the essence of our psychedelic skies, and all the insane romance of LA.

As always, Aunt Beep loves Apartment Therapy!

hi there,
thanks for the kind words on my cities and the great replies!!

just a note, my gallery (Gallery Revisited) is in Silver Lake now, not Chinatown...

i represent amazing artists, and the store in front reps my work (it's called sumi's).

for all non-LA folks, definitely check with Aunt Beep for great online access to my work anywhere in the world!

thanks again!

Heidi & Enrique, I stumbled across this page doing some research. Funny enough I'm the Director at Lawrence Asher Gallery and we represent Jay Brockman. If you ever happen to check this page out again give me a shout.
