A Welcome Overhang
Austin

100908welcome-01.jpg We’re all used to seeing welcome mats on the front door steps of homes we visit. With their catchy graphics and witty phrases, a welcome mat can oftentimes set the tone of a person’s house (or at the very least a particular visit). And while a welcome mat can have your guests looking down, why not try something to have them looking up…

100908welcome-02.jpg We saw this painted overhang along South Congress Avenue, attached to a hip massage salon. We loved how the neat graphic caught our attention immediately and made our eyes go to it. Featuring a very Zen-like subject and color palette, this overhang also does a great job of adding interest to the façade of this business. If you don’t have a paintable surface or don’t want to do anything permanent, do what these creative folks did and paint on a thin piece of wood and attach to your awning or overhang.

100908welcome-03.jpg Have you ever seen a creative “welcome” awning or overhang before? What do you think about this business’ choice of graphic and color? Let us know!

What a great idea. I had wanted to do something like this above my front door, where the walkway "ceiling" meets the front of the house, but couldn't figure out how to paint a design upside down! Duh...paint on plywood and attach once painted. Thank you!
