Welcome again to Adrienne, trying out for a spot on the team representing Austin, Texas. As always let us know what you think in the comments!
Finally, room service that won't leave you with a huge bill at the end of your trip. (And you don't have to worry about tipping your bellhop, either.) Room Service Vintage store, located in the always hip North Loop area of Austin, supplies Austinites with funky, cool and vintage furnishings. While a trip to the store may seem like you have been lost in time, the best thing about this store is that it is always changing.

They have a huge inventory of 50s, 60s and 70s furnishings they rotate and arrange often. Along with the usual assortment of sofas, chairs, tables and desks, Room Service also has a great selection of lamps, chandeliers, pillows, fabrics and accessories (ranging from statuettes to typewriters). Nothing makes for a "cool" interior like a comprehensive selection of records, and Room Service has plenty. They also sport what may be the best-looking record listening booth that I've ever seen. Room Service also boasts an impressive array of vintage dinnerware. The showroom, though thoughtfully arranged, is quite packed, so you will most likely have to do several laps around the store to take everything in (and I would advise leaving the bulky bags at home.) Most items here are in good shape, but keep in mind this is a vintage store, so inspect everything you want before you purchase, as things are sold as is. Even if you prefer to buy new, Room Service is definitely the place to go for inspiration and ideas.

I've yet to hear of an AT Miami or Atlanta, but we get an AT Austin? color me perplexed here in the southeast...

Oh one of the things I miss. I loved going to Room Service on Sundays and digging through the store. I'm so glad to see they are still open.

North Loop is such a neat area, everything is just so interesting to look at. For whatever reason I've never made it inside of Room Service, I'll have to go check it out.

Bravo! I am in Houston and am happy to see us represented. I lived in Austin for a brief time several years ago and still visit when I get the time. Art and culture are on every street corner there, there are tons of stores just like the one shared here and plenty of creative people who have something to offer us on AT. In my opinion by the looks of it, Adrienne and Austin would truly be a great place to represent the south or at least Texas.
Goodluck Adrienne! Hope to see you and Austin back soon!

These are the kind of stores that make Austin so great and diverse. I guess we are supposed to say "keeping it weird."
Either way, thanks Adrienne for showing people a little more of the funky side.

Really really great post. I'll have to second the opinion that dutches327 gave, I think Adrienne possesses the cool style of writing that goes well with the Austin scene. A great choice to pick Room Service, seems really eclectic and has something for everyone. I also enjoy the tips you gave to people who will visit, I think they can apply to any thrifting experience. And great pics too, I like the composition of them. Really gives me a feel for the store.

Great to see some local writers. I think AT has done a good job of expanding beyond NYC.
Having browsed in all of the Austin vintage stores (I think) and in vintage stores in most other major US cities, I have to say that Austin's vintage offerings are of the funky, low-brow variety. I miss the eye candy at some of the higher-end vintage stores in the larger cities. However, the selections certainly fit Austin's overall cultural attitude that is unpretentious and comfortable.

i agree with dutchess! (as i lived in austin once as well)! in fact, i was visiting austin this weekend and was in Room Service this past saturday and i must say it's as awesome and eclectic as always. one thing: my friend used the bathroom which is covered in a ton of bunny-related decor (you have to see it to believe it). the nice guy behind the counter told us to not be scared when he handed us the bathroom key-- but it was hard. i used to think bunnies were cute, but now....
yay Adrienne and i hope to see more of you here on AT!

I live down the street from Room Service and can't go longer than a week without spending a hour or two in this store. It's so great that you can go in with $400 or $10 dollars and still come out with an amazing find.

After they added a bunch of bloggers on the coasts, completely ignoring the vast area in-between yet again, I had written this site off as elitist and stopped visiting for months. I'm glad I returned to find a blogger from Austin. Go Texas!

It's good to see Austin getting the recognition it deserves. Adrienne obviously has an eye for some the city's finest treasures, and I'm glad AT is letting the rest of us in on the find. This place is a gold mind for... well, for everything basically! Good job, Adrienne, and I can't wait to see more of what's inside that head and city of yours.
