Here's Adrienne, another potential blogger bringing us some space age inspiration from Austin. Tell us what you think!
Local business phenomenon Kelly Chappell and local designer Jamie Chioco have teamed up to create a cafe with a decor that's out of this world. Located in Austin's new "Triangle" development (named for the shape that the two main roads, Guadalupe and Lamar make when they intersect), the newly opened Galaxy Cafe mixes funky, cool and intergalactic elegantly.

Floors are a stained concrete reminiscent of the Milky Way and the ceiling is high and bright. Galaxy features a variety of seating options, from the tufted booths, to the simple cafe tables to the sleek bar. The red and orange colors in the space resemble those in the two other older galaxy cafes in Austin only more sophisticated and with a lot more white.
Outdoor seating is plentiful and features my favorite element of the cafe's design, the translucent red chairs. Custom light fixtures designed by Chioco himself are ideally proportioned and stunning.

Furniture is from local modern furnishings store Bella Home. The space feels open and interesting and the various seating options give you the choice of eating more publicly or more privately. Galaxy Cafe embodies the perfect mix of Austin funky and urban cool (and I hear the food's not too bad, either).

I like the entrance to this restaurant too. The original location has great charm to it as well and is nestled in the burbs.
Food here is quite yummy too! From LA and live in Austin now, so real happy to see some Austin representation!

I love Galaxy! The new one is great, similar in decor but just different enough from the original location to stand out. I love the interiors of both.
The sweet potato fries are pretty amazing too.

I've been in Austin for a while now and never realized this place was there, looks pretty neat. I'll have to check it out, thanks for the heads up!

I've been to the Clarksville one on West Lynn, and it's great; the employees are friendly, the atmosphere is relaxed and unpretentious, and the food (and coffee) is very, very good.

Adrienne, wonderful post! If ever I'm in Austin, I'll check it out, but in the mean time, your writing and pictures make me feel like I'm there.

Yikes. Haven't lived in Austin for a few years, but that's not the city I remember. Looks like LA. Maybe I got out at the right time!

john m- you are right. California has invaded our beloved Texas town... Everytime I go back, I notice physical changes and attitude changes. It is still a great city, but not the way it used be. Ah, the good ol' days!
The funny thing is, I'm still trying to figure out how to move back from DC!

I frequent the south side one on Slaughter Lane and was just thinking the other day as I stood waiting for my Blue Cheese burger that I should take some pictures and submit them to this site. Glad to see Adrienne has posted ones of the new Galaxy at the Triangle. If I get a chance, I will try to get some pictures of the South Austin location. :)

That man Kelly is awesome. I've been to two of the three Galaxy Cafes he's opened, and they are great. People are great, food great, prices great. I've run into that man all over town. He is a genuine nice guy, and Austin through and through.
