Inspiration: Craftsman Joseph Zambarano
Austin

110308joseph-01.jpg We did a house tour awhile ago of the great modern home of Kim and Paul in South Austin that featured, among a great aesthetic, an awesome glossy yellow central staircase with built-in storage. While the design of the home was from the local architect MJ Neal, the craftsman who made it possible was Joseph Zambarano, and the rest of his work is quite inspiring! More after the jump...

110308joseph-04.jpg We loved all the simple yet modern cabinetry and furniture featured in his portfolio. Just check out this great banquette! This craftsman definitely represents the innovative design style seen with most Austin artists. We also found the storage ideas featured in many of the projects he's worked on very inspiring. You might get ideas for your own homes on his website!

The photo of the yellow staircase is very hard to decipher. Where are the stairs? Where's the storage?

The red cabinet with the innovative side drawers is interesting. I guess that the contents have to fit the location -- if the drawers have things I need at hand, then having them around the corner, slightly out of reach would be awkward.

To see how the staircase and whole element works you can see these renderings.

The piece is an entertainment center and coat storage closet at the bottom floor; it's a hidden storage element at the stairs (as it helps as structural support for them) and then, it becomes a floating studio suite at the top with built in desk and drawers.

I was lucky enough to tour two of MJ Neal's homes in the S. Congress area as they were being finished. They're AMAZING. The thought and attention to detail is really first rate!
