Inspiration: Hollywood Regency for the Bedroom
Austin

010309hollywoodb-01.jpg Last week, we posted about taking tips from a modern bed and breakfast on how you can transform your own bedroom into a minimalist and relaxing retreat. But if your idea of the perfect sleep space is a bit more glamorous, then you need not look any farther than the Hollywood Regency style to inspire your own luxurious bedroom. More after the jump!

010309hollywoodb-02.jpg As with any style, there are lots of elements that come together to make a room fall under the umbrella term of Hollywood Regency. You can choose many for a super-glamorous look or pick a few for just some hints of glam. Either way, these tips are great for sprucing up your bedroom (as well as any room!).

  • Chinoiserie You could go with some gorgeous Asian-inspired wallpaper, some equally gorgeous Asian-inspired draperies or perhaps just accessories. Chinoiserie is a definite for any room going for that Hollywood look.
  • Black, white and bold Black and white together, paired with your favorite bold and bright colors do wonders to create a glamorous space. Incorporate them in your bed, on furniture or in accessories.
  • Faux bamboo While this likely falls under the chinoiserie category, its prominence in Hollywood Regency interiors prompts its own mention. Bring in this element in furniture or even better, gorgeous wall mirrors.
  • Metallics and mirrored pieces You can't have a Hollywood room with out a little glitter. Experiment bringing in metallics in bed sheets, draperies or other soft elements, and add a fabulous mirrored furniture piece into the mix.
  • No clutter At first glance, a Hollywood Regency interior and a minimalist interior might not seem to have a lot in common, but both styles favor an edited selection of accessories and elements. Bring your favorite things in, but don't over do it! Hollywood Regency rooms look fabulous because of their rich and luxurious-looking elements, not because they are full to the brim with stuff.

What do you think about the Hollywood Regency style? Do you think it works for the bedroom? Tell us about your bedrooms that have pulled the style off successfully!

I love pink, but that's too much. And I'm not a fan of that really small-print wallpaper/fabric... it starts to swim after a while. The mirror furniture picks it up and relicates the dizziness; I imagine it would look worse in real life as you (and the reflections) move around.

There are pieces I like in all three rooms, but over all, only the third one does anything for me.

Hollywood regency interiors make me think of golf course retirement communities in Florida. The look has never seemed "young" and "fresh" to me. Maybe it's just because I'm in my 40s and can remember it as a distinctly geriatric style.

Everything old eventually comes back to be new again, whether it be design, music, decor or Madonna ;)

I am totally in love with Hollywood Regency decor! I feel that I finally "found" myself in this style. Of course I put my own stamp on it, with my individual, personal twist. I always liked traditional style with some glitz so when glamorous trend started to surface, I jumped in head first.

I am hearing now that it may be on it's way out because it is beginning to show up in the retail market like at pottery barn and even Target. I have decided that I will always have this style, adapting it with current additions, even when it is "out".

I will be bringing my mirrored furniture and fur throw to the nursing home with me!

These rooms are well done and kudos for that, but I still totally hate Hollywood Regency. Totally.
