Look: Cheap and Easy Hanging Hardware Idea!
Austin

111408hanging-01.jpg The holidays are just around the corner, which means that you'll soon be rushing around trying to complete all those unfinished design projects around the house. If any of those projects could utilize cheap and easy hanging hardware, we've got a suggestion for you!

111408hanging-02.jpg We visited a friend to see some of the changes he had recently made to his apartment, and fell in love with the easy yet good-looking hanging elements he had incorporated in his space. Using some inexpensive hardware he found at Ikea, he hung some handmade art on one wall, and then hung a curtain to divide his space in another part. Both projects came off looking modern, masculine and clean! We really thought this hardware could be used to hang up items like all the holiday cards you'll be getting in the mail, other holiday decorations, or temporary curtains in rooms where you'll have guests staying (or where you might need to hide some things if you lack storage!)

111408hanging-03.jpg He used the Dignitet hardware from Ikea, which ranged in price from $3.99 for corner pieces, $14.99 for the wire and $4.99 for the clips. He also mentioned that the hardware came in two versions, allowing for when you need to hang the wire from a doorway straight or if you wanted to use it in front of a wall at a 90 degree angle.

Happy Hanging!

Have you used this hardware from Ikea before and have any tips or advice? Or, do you have a secret and cheap hanging solution you've used before with sucess? Let us know!

Does anyone know if this is a sturdier wire hanging system than Ikea's other set, the name of which currently eludes me? I was just thinking I'd have to replace my sagging curtain wires with rods.

We use these at home. They work great, and make a cool zippy sound as the curtains are opened/closed. We get around the sagging by using one of the posts meant to go around the corner. The curtains span about 8~10 feet.

Habitat (which, it should be known, is owned by Ikea's founder) makes a similar curtain wire set that I've used over the years. Very sturdy -- in any case the parts that go into the wall are thicker and the screws are longer than in the photo of the Ikea ones shown here.

PLEASE ANSWER: has anyone every tried this w/ plaster walls? how do you keep the hardware from just falling out of the wall when you increase the tension on the wire????

*i did a diy version of this a few years ago, but i had a horrible time w/ the curtain sagging. it was hard to get enough tension. i'm currently using a track rail system from ikea, but b/c my wall bends, the whole thing looks uneven. i was considering replacing it w/ this.

I've never used it, but I'm glad I didn't buy it during my last visit to Ikea this past weekend. The idea is perfect for hanging pictures and things which are not so heavy.
