We spotted this kitchen in the newest Ikea catalog and couldn't decide whether or not we liked it. Is combining deep crimson red cabinets with hot pink wall paint a good match? Or is it too much of a good thing? What do you think? Have you ever created a similiar color combination in your own home? Let us know!

My initial response was hell, no. But the more I look at it the more I like it.

The colour combo might look cool if all of the accessories on the shelves were black or red, rather than mixed white and stainless, but it's never practical to be that rigourous in a functional space like a kitchen.
Actually, now that I look again, it's the bright white backslash and counter that looks wrong. When you block it out with your hand the picture looks much better.

@ amed studio You're right - its the contrast. Better maybe if the counter and backsplash were stainless.

I think Pink and Red are a great color combo in Bedrooms, Living rooms and Dining rooms...
...but somehow I don't thing this picture is going to sell many Red & Pink kitchens.

Yeah, either the pink or the white has to go. Although the white might be offensive because the photo is a little overexposed. Which is weird, if it's from the catalog. Although on my monitor, even if I tilt it, it looks less pink and more purple/fuchsia.

It really depends on how often you redecorate. It looks cool, but it will grow old quickly, I am thinking.

agreed, the white and the shelves are throwing me off. it gives it more of a striped look then color blocked. Get rid of the white and it's really interesting.

No. Just...no.

I always knew deep red and hot pink went together since the day i saw, about 40 years ago, my cousin's Barbie dressed in a hot pink picture hat with a deep red peplum top over the same-colored red pencil skirt. I have never stopped being jealous about that gorgeous outfit. All I see is the hat (the walls) and the skirt (the cupboards). love that.

Horrendous. Great cabinets, though.

I love red and hot pink separately, but together, it looks too much like a giant valentine. I'm not into it.

It's not for me.

I find it a stressful combination for a kitchen. If the walls had been a paler shade of pink (perhaps a shell pink) it might have worked better. But it still would have been a little too valentine-y for my taste. The random stuff on the shelves isn't helping the visual chaos much either.

No need for coffee in the morning...Just walking into this kitchen would be enough to shock me wide awake. Yikes!

Looks angry, like someone did this as revenge before they left.

Blech. Blood and Pepto-bismol...not a good combo anywhere.

i love bright pink and deep red together, because it is so unexpected, and you don't think it would work which makes it great when you see it done really well. my bed has hot pink sheets, and the comforter has a lot of brown and red, and i love it!

Hmmm... red and pink I don't mind. But not that red with THAT pink.

To me, there's not enough difference between the two colors to be pleasing to the eye. I like the vibrancy of each on their own, but together, they wash each other out too much. Some black trim around the pink might be nice, but I still think the pink and red colors are too similar.

I think it looks a bit cheap.

With white walls, the pink and red combination in my 5 year old daughter's room looks great with lots of graphic elements.

I love red and pink together (although I prefer fuschia and orange!). These two particular shades don't work for me, though. I would eliminate the white altogether. I imagine they might appear different in person; colors rarely come through accurately in these photos. In fact, nothing IKEA sells really comes through accurately in photos.
Still, it looks better than my raggedy paint-chipped kitchen -- this is just the kick in the butt I need to go paint!

It scared the hell out of me when I first saw it in the catalog. While it could be much worse, I don't think I'd want it in my kitchen. I like a bit more relaxed atmosphere and that one is surely more energized than I can handle!
