Living in a small apartment (and even some small houses) can sometimes mean living without a nicely sized lawn. And while our idea for you today isn't exactly large enough to frolick through, it'll certainly provide some nice indoor visuals...

This isn't just any indoor plant; it's wheatgrass! A lovely flat planter filled with wheatgrass and placed on your window ledge will bring a shot of green to your space and give you a nice "lawn" to gaze over! Wheatgrass seeds can be found at most plant stores and nurseries, so check your local one.
Not only gorgeous to look at, some people find wheatgrass to have healthy benefits when digested. Most homeowners who grow their own wheatgrass do so to have it for juicing. And while we love that it's healthy for you, we really love the way it looks! Grown properly, this stuff sprouts quickly and is pretty easy to care for once you get the hang of it.
Are you a wheatgrass grower or consumer? Let us know! Tell us how you grow or use wheatgrass in your home (or at the juice bar!).
Oh yeah, I grow it for my cats. It never looks quite that pretty when they're done munching on it.
Keep in mind that this is a short-term display (about a week or so) and it will get overgrown pretty quickly.

I've been looking for a long skinny planter exactly like that! For a windowsill. Any idea where I could find one cheap?

this one looks like the tray the pot would normally sit over...(a drainage tray for the planter.) home depot has them.

you're gonna make me cry. my mom set this up for me when I was a kid in our NY apartment.... looooooooooooong ago
and I think it was in winter, and I think it lived on top of the radiator cover under the window
last thing that did that to me was a sled Hoover in a design show at a museum....

Think about growing wheatgrass in repurposed pop bottle planters. It should work and then you would have "green" grass, in every sense of the word. If necessary add a "hood" to make pop bottle propagators.

Can you keep it under control by trimming it with scissors to make it last longer? This would be great to replace the sweet potato vine that has taken over my kitchen window.
