081908kayak-01.jpg No matter whether you're looking to take a week long vacation or a day long distraction, a kayaking, canoeing or rowing trip can be a great choice for an escape (not to mention affordable!) For those AT readers living in Austin, the perfect spot is right in the middle of the city...

081908kayak-02.jpg There are lots of state parks in and around Austin that can accommodate guests looking to float or paddle downstream all day. Austin residents are also lucky enough to have Lady Bird Lake right in the middle of their city to explore!

Featuring over 6 miles of water to traverse (and that's not counting Barton Springs and other side streams), Lady Bird Lake can be a whole day exploring adventure. There are many species of wildlife to experience and plenty of places along the lake to stop and rest or picnic.

Visitors can choose from several rental companies to acquire boats. Even if you don't have any canoeing or kayaking experience, don't worry. The staffs at these rental companies are on hand to train you and provide all the necessary safety information and equipment to make your day fun and safe.

Think there's an even better place in Austin to canoe? Let us know! And, if you don't live in Austin, where's your favorite place in your own city to go kayaking or canoeing?
