As much as we love our pets, sometimes they can wreak havoc on our floors. From gouges and scratches to the inevitable “mess”, the floors of a home filled with cats, dogs and other 4 legged friends have to be durable. We’ve got a flooring that can not only fend off all that Fido can do to it, but looks gorgeous and is good for the environment, too.

Marmoleum is made with natural, raw materials such as linseed oil, wood flour, rosin, and jute and is available in sheet, tile and a click-down version. No harmful VOC’s are emitted by Marmoleum, letting both you and your pets breath a little easier. Don't be fooled by how environmentally friendly this flooring is; it's tough.
The bactericidal properties of marmoleum prevent micro-organisms from multiplying and is extremely easy to clean. Stains don’t sink in and require little effort to clean. Usually dust mops and damp rags are all that are needed to clean up anything from your pet!
Not to mention of course, Marmoleum looks great! You can choose from hundreds of colors and create your own custom patterns. This flooring feels great underfoot: softer than you'd expect and not as cold as most other hard surface flooring.
Do you have Marmoleum flooring in your home and want to sing its praises (or make some complaints)? Let us know! Or tell us about some of the pet mishaps that have done damage to your current flooring!
It would also be good to hear from DIY'ers as to how easy/difficult this is to install.

I loooove marmoleum, but be warned...if you use products with bleach in them to clean it will make the surface of the marmoleum turn white.
Think carefully if you put it bathrooms and such where you might want to use bleach.
And yes, I know, bleach is horrible and only terrible people use it. Just trying to give people a heads up.

I love it too...but it does scratch. Not sure who said it doesn't but I put a sample down on my floor to test it out for a while and let the dogs at it and it was very scratched up after just a few weeks. We ended up going with Cork instead. It scratches too, but seems less noticeable and hides dirt and dog hair much more. The marmoleum, at least in the color we chose, showed every speck of dirt so it wasn't a good choice for us. If you can take care of it though, it's beautiful and the options for patterns etc. are great.

Argh, I have stone downstairs and wood upstairs. And the rambunctious dogs have done a number on the wood with very little effort! Sigh. At least the dogs are cute.

I just put down Marmoleum click in my kitchen. They have held up great all during lots of contractors walking through the kitchen. Really easy to install, by the way.

We use it all the time in corridors for institutional projects and some multi-family housing. With a good coat of industrial wax it will hold up well. You will need to buff it and recoat now an then depending upon the use. As for DIY only the residential click flooring the sheet goods needs to be rolled and seamed with a integral color weld strip - even the pro's mess this up.

I have Marmoleum and I love it but it does chip. Be careful when moving heavy furniture!

I have it in my kitchen with 2 dogs and it holds up really well--we do need to seal it periodically. I wish I'd known about the click option--we had a pro do the sheet and after one screwed it up, we had to start over with another guy.
