040609uncommon-01.jpg A staple in hip SoCo for some time now, Uncommon Objects might not be your first stop for home decor. With nook after nook of antiques, oddities and furniture, it can be downright overwhelming, especially for the first time visitor. But if you're looking for a place to find that unique touch of whimsy to really finish off a room, this store could be for you. More after the jump!

040609uncommon-02.jpg The purveyors of Uncommon Objects really go out of their way to hunt down the coolest finds for this store. Some things we've come across: old medical instruments, old-fashioned signage, Mid-Century furniture, antlers, old biology posters---the list goes on. If you don't like a store filled to the brim with items, you might not have a good time here. If you like spending hours searching through boxes of old photographs, then plan to spend an entire day at Uncommon Objects.

040609uncommon-03.jpg Given the limited amount of space each of the 24 purveyors have to sell their wares, homeowners can really find inspiration for their own spaces in the unique methods used to display certain objects in the shop. Some of our favorite inspiring vignettes we saw were wall collages created out of unusual (and oftentimes unmatching) objects.

040609uncommon-04.jpg While you probably won't fill your entire house from this store (though, you could) this is definitely a great location to spend some time exploring and picking up that conversation piece for your living room!

Their website is useless. Too long to load.

But their real-life space is awesome! It is my go-to place for antiques.

I like this store a lot. There is so much to see, and I can take my husband with me. This says a lot for a store's "interesting" factor if it can keep my husbands attention as he is a non-browser.

LOVE Uncommon Objects - when there for the first time when I was in Austin about a month ago. SO many cool things. Made me wish I lived there so I could outfit my entire apartment from there.

Yes, one of the best treats in SoCo this place. Well, in Austin at large or the universe frankly. Jam-packed with fantastic quirk and diversity. Plus great proprietors. Have found many an uncommon object there over the years including a fab vintage bag that is lovingly carried to the point of being a fashionable appendage.

Great post, Adrienne!
