We've admired this homeowner's detailing to its parked Airstream trailer for awhile now. Instead of letting it sit forgotten and disused in a corner of their lot, they've given it the star treatment and it now sits on its own well-landscaped miniature lot, ready for a cross-country vacation or a visit from traveling guests...
While we'd all love to have huge houses with tons of guest rooms or even our own spacious guest cottage out back, we don't all have such a luxury. This homeowner shows us that with a little planning you can show your guests how important they are to you, even if you're putting them up in an Airstream. Let's face it, even airstreams are pretty pricey these days, so why not apply this idea to campers, vans---even tents (though, depending on the adventure level of your guests, it might be you sleeping in your guest quarters).
What is the strangest guest room you've ever seen or stayed at? What are the unique ways in which you've figured out how to accommodate more guests at your home? Let us know!
Strangest guest quarters:
My BF and i stayed with some friends from my college days a couple of years ago. Since college they have started a circus troupe. after a long wonderful night of telling reminiscing and drinking wine, they showed us they're guest room; a loft. only accessible by a rope hanging from the ceiling!!!!!!!
after lots of giggling, falling on my butt, and standing on my BF's shoulders we made it up and passed out. At about 5 in the morning when the wine had made it's way through my body and i needed to use the facilities, i was just going to have to hold it, cuz there was NO way i was going to be able to make it up the rope again.
The next morning, when everyone had sobered up and my friends realized that they had not taught us the super cool way trapeze artists climb ropes, i got a free lesson!!!
so now i have a cool way to climb ropes and a great story!

this is so cool! i LOVE airstreams.
it wasn't the official guest house, but when i was a kid my friend had a sleep over for her birthday party and we all got to sleep in their camper. it was the best.

When I was a little boy, my Grandfather proudly parked his brand-new 28' 1968 Airstream Safari under the big oak trees on the front lawn of their home in Central Illinois...
...When we'd visit in the summer and it was too hot to sleep upstairs in their Victorian Farmhouse (pre-A/C), they'd put us grandkids in the big shiny Airstream.

hmm.. I haven't figured that out yet, actually. In fact, our house is so small that our guest room serves as the room for the cat, the dog, and all of our linens, not to mention half of my clothes. Whenever people stay over, I ask them to keep the door partially open so the cat can come and go. thankfully, only family has stayed with us since we moved in!

My partner and I had a 1976 green VW camper van. The engine was often on the fritz, but we enjoyed having a drink and playing games in it when it was just sitting in the driveway. That thing had the most amazing use of a small space, it was like a little well appointed boat cabin on wheels. And the green plaid interior was fabulous.
I miss that van dearly and wish we would have kept it.

I'm in love with their fence! It's just what we've been looking for. I worry though that the spaces between slats will create a perfect "ladder" for my cats to climb over and escape our yard.
Oh, and the Airstream is nice too :)

Love!
Have never stayed in very strange guestroom but once when I was little, Mom and I found a caboose on the tracks near a park and went inside. It had a little desk and loft beds - I've fantasized about having one ever since. (And yes, I read The Boxcar Children many, many times.)
