We brought you the great Hog Wild vintage store earlier today that's located in the North Loop neighborhood of Austin. Like many cities, Austin's known for its colorful and unique communities, and the North Loop doesn't disappoint. If you're looking for a good day trip, the North Loop might just be for you...
If you're in Austin and looking to getaway from all this economic bad news, the North Loop has distractions galore. Or, perhaps you've just moved to Austin and are wondering where to settle down? The North Loop neighborhood is a great example of a funky Austin area. Sort of rusty but totally local, North Loop comprises an area between Lamar Road and I-35 and between 51st Street and Koenig, plus a little bit that dips down Airport Boulevard.
The North Loop neighborhood is full of bright colors, dim lights, questionable characters and imaginative business signs. It's wonderful. The area sprung up after soldiers coming home from the World War II needed to build homes. After years of being considered undesirable because of its close proximity to Austin's old airport, a new airport was built and the North Loop enjoyed resurgence in popularity. The neighborhood now enjoys an eclectic mix of residents and business owners and is home to several popular businesses, like the Epoch and Flight Path coffee shops and great vintage stores, pizza parlors and restaurants.
Live in Austin and love the North Loop? Let us know! Not in Austin? Tell us about your favorite neighborhood in your city or tell us if the North Loop reminds you of a place close to where you live!
I miss Austin. :( Thanks for all the posts about this great city!

Well, that's a fancy new neighborhood name! Back when I lived on 45th and Duval, it was all just "Hyde Park". Of course, that was back in the early 90s, when slackers roamed free and there was only one (ONE!) coffeehouse in town.
Anyway, I can attest to the awesomeness of that particular neighborhood, even if I never heard it called "North Loop" before.

I think technically 45th and Duval is still Hyde Park. I'm sure brokers are working hard to change that since Hyde Park is expensive. Were the market headed in the other direction, Hyde Park would be expanding and North Loop would be considered a bad neighborhood. North Loop never became what I hoped it might become when I lived there. But I guess that could be said for all of Austin from my point of view.

Flight Path was there before the airport was relocated...hence the name "Flight Path".
I've never heard the area called North Loop. Fifty-third street becomes North Loop just before the east/west switch.

Could you be persuaded to enter into a pact where you never ever call anything in Austin "funky" again??
Seriously. Please??

"Sort of rusty but totally local"...
Huh?

The rusty side of Austin is what makes it beautiful.
And calling this stuff "funky" just makes you sound out-of-touch. Like a sorority girl who's been plunged into the real world, but who doesn't quite get it. "Wow guys! Funky!"

I live in that neighborhood and it is still called Hyde Park. Not North Loop. I don't know where she got that from. Maybe she doesn't know that the street she is posting about is called North Loop. But I feel most of her posts are remedial and do not properly represent Austin.

I lived in that area until a year ago and I called it North Loop.
