Roundup: Downtown Austin Coffee Shops
Austin

082108dtcoffee-07.jpg A few weeks ago we brought you some of the hippest South Austin coffee shops to hang out in or gain inspiration from for your own homes. Now we're bringing you some of the coolest Downtown Austin java joints. Whether you're a long time resident or thinking about paying Austin a visit, these are all spots worth checking out for decor ideas on your next trip downtown!

Jo's second location in Austin has a bit more interior space than its South Congress cousin, but still has plenty of style and good coffee. Located in the 2nd Street District, Jo's downtown features a hip outdoor seating area and a large interior space with modern seating and even cooler light fixtures.

Also featuring multiple locations throughout Austin, the downtown branch of Austin Java is located in the ultra-modern Austin City Hall. With ample outdoor seating and lots of people-watching opportunities, the interior of Austin Java has a cozy, artsy feel to it.

082108dtcoffee-03.jpg Halcyon Coffeehouse 218 West 4th street Austin, Texas 78704

Halcyon Coffeehouse, located in the Warehouse District downtown, caters to a variety of Austin residents in a hip, high-ceiling corner location with lots of different types of seating. If you're craving something a little stronger than coffee you're in luck: Halcyon is also a bar and lounge.

More of a drive through or walk up to stand, (with no public interior to speak up) Emerald City Press deserves a mention due to its gorgeous decor details, like their emerald green tiles and wood paneling.

1101 West Lynn
Austin, Texas 78703

If you're looking for that traditional coffee shop look in a modern environment, Caffe Medici is for you. It's comfortable and reliable and features a lot of neat stone outdoor seating, too. Although it's a bit outside of the Downtown area, it's still a close enough bike ride!

What do you think of these coffee shops? Have we left one of your favorite Downtown coffee shops off this list?

Sigh--we have lots of coffee lovers here in Tucson--why oh why can't we have a wide variety of cool coffee places?!

I think I've been to Halcyon when I was visiting my friend. You can order s'mores and they bring a cool little mini firepit to your table to toast marshmallows. All the seating options are nice too. We brought games and played in cushy corner lounge area.

Halcyon & Jo's have amazing turkey & brie sandwiches, and I totally recommend Halcyon's VooDoo Lady cocktail in the evening.

"Hippest"? "Coolest"?

Why do I feel like this article is trying to sell me a branded lifestyle choice rather than tell me about decent coffee?

A lot of great coffee shops in Austin were missed. I think Austin Java is sub par and only popular because it was one of the first "hip" coffee shops in the city. Everyone needs to check out Garden District on South Congress, Progress on E. 5th and I35, and Hot Mamas on E. 6th. Venture to the east side.......its funky!!

I'm glad the place where I hung out isn't on this list. It's crowded enough already.

I second Progress and would like to add Cafe Mundi to that list.
